JOB TITLE:                LAB TECHNICIAN I

DEPARTMENT:        Materials Control Lab

REPORTS TO:           Materials Control Lab Manager

FLSA STATUS:         Non-Exempt

SUMMARY:  

            This position is an entry level position. The person seeking this position should possess initiative, a strong aptitude for mathematics and good mechanical abilities. Prepares most of the test samples for all analyses in the lab.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES: 

  • Perform preliminary analyses during alloy manufacture in furnaces.
  • Skilled in use of X-ray fluorescence, optical spectroscopy, C-S and O-N2 analysis equipment.
  • Prepare most of the test samples for all analyses in the Lab.  Includes cutting, cleaning, machining, surfacing, packaging, and logging in of samples.
  • Skilled in use of, and provides technical assistance for, the alloy-type test operation (Kevex).
  • Perform various plant audits and process control:  i.e. rinse tests (residual core).
  • Calibrate analytical equipment.
  • Assist wet lab in analytical operation including but not limited to ICP-MS, ICP, and GFAA instruments.
  • Perform general housekeeping functions in the lab.
  • Perform general technique for x-ray wafer preparation.
  • Perform any additional tasks required by the MCL Manager, experienced technican or specialist.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or GED and/or College Degree in lieu of experience.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience as laboratory technician. 
  • An understanding of theory and operation of our analytical instrumentation.

 

COMPUTER SKILLS:

            To perform this job successfully, an individual should be computer literate.
