MISSION: 

To perform a variety of tasks and functions necessary to maximize quantity and ensure quality of parts throughput in Layout.  Apply inspection skills to maximize time spent in Layout department.  Communicate with engineers and customers on product condition.

 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

       1. DDS Entry 

            Objective: Mark Item Codes on Blueprints and Enter these into DDS. 

          Essential Job Functions: 

  • Mark Blueprint with Items Codes (Balloon Print) per DDS requirements. (SSBO only) 
  • Enter Item codes into DDS. Using a PC, all information is keyed into reformatted worksheet which is automatically compiled for later use.  (SSBO only) 
  • Works closely with Engineering personnel to resolve dimensional problems.         
  • Enter inspection results and appropriate remarks into DDS inspection reports.

 

       2. Visual-dimensional inspection 

            Objective: To identify surface defects and ensure dimensional integrity of castings.

            Essential Job Functions: 

  • Review tech cards and lot numbers. (SSBO only) 
  • Perform Dimensional, Visual and UT inspections on castings for fundamental portions of Layout Inspections dimensional reports 
  • Uses a variety of hand tools to assist in inspections. 
  • Inspects castings and fixtures for conformance to blueprint and tech card specifications using templates, micrometers, height gauges, calipers, ultrasound, and other dimensional measuring devices. 
  • Checks casting hardness per heat treat specifications using Brinell, Rockwell and other instruments. (SSBO only)
  • Using CMM reports, marks castings to identify areas needing rework in order to   meet dimensional specifications.

      

      3. Auditor (SSBO only) 

            Objective: To perform routine audits as mandated by the QCM in the following inspection area’s: Visual, Dimensional, UT and CMM.  And as necessary to conform to Customer requirements using those same skills. 

            Essential Job Functions: 

  • Using Dimensional hand tools and Inspection fixturing, perform Dimensional audits as described by the QCM. 
  • Using equipment common to a Visual Inspectors workstation perform Visual audit as described by the QCM.
  • Using Ultrasonic Testing equipment performs Dimensional audits as described by the QCM.
  • Perform any additional Audits that the Incumbent is qualified to satisfy customer requirements.

         4. Calibration

              Objective: To calibrate and adjust measuring devices, fixtures, and gauges on scheduled basis; to maintain complete and accurate calibration records on dimensional measuring devices as required by PCC and customers specifications.

             Essential Job Functions:

    • Calibrates and adjusts fixtures.
    • Calibrates and adjusts precision measuring tools.
    • Calibrates and adjusts gauges. (LSBO & SSBO only).
    • Acts as representative of PCC in customer and government audits of calibration program.
    • Maintains completed and accurate records of calibration results.

       5. Other Responsibilities:

             Essential Job Functions:

    • Satisfactorily perform the duties of Vis/Dim Inspector when needed and as assigned.
    • Satisfactorily perform the duties of a Auditor when needed and as assigned.  (SSBO only)
    •  Apply learned skills to positions throughout the Inspection areas.
    •  Develop or assist in the development of tech cards, computer programs and other tools that facilitate the work of the team and improve the production process.
    •  Perform other tasks as assigned

    ESSENTIAL EQUIPMENT, VEHICLES, MACHINERY AND/OR TOOLS USED:

    TRAINING:

    • Minimal training is provided on the job as needed.
    • Visual/Dimensional Inspection Courses and current Certification.
    • Ultrasound Course and Certification.
    • Layout Inspector Certification.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Visual and dimensional inspection skills to use precision measuring inspection tools as demonstrated by classroom training and/or work experience; completion of Visual/Dimensional course at time of hire. 
    • Ability to read, interpret and follow specifications on Tech Cards and other technical material, to write and to perform arithmetic calculations.
    • Ability to perform dimensional inspection applying proper techniques. 
    • Ability to read precision hand tools. 
    • 20/30 correctable vision, and satisfactory passage of depth perception and color vision tests.
    • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills including the ability to skillfully negotiate with co-workers and others outside of product team to achieve efficiencies and improve processes and contribute to the effective and collegial function of assigned team.
    • Ability to provide work direction and training to others.
    •  Ability to work independently included in these skills are the ability to keep accurate documentation of activities and track parts, routinely inform and enhance the ability of the team supervisor to communicate regarding the status of parts and develop and maintain his/her awareness of systemic problems, issues, and resource needs.
    • Ability to participate in and demonstrate learning from a performance appraisal process which assesses the skills of the incumbent as well as the effectiveness of an incumbent’s communications skills, training ability, flexibility and support of the team and the production process.       
    • The ability to effectively contribute to the work of the Layout team including engaging in effective problem resolution, communication and creative development of solutions, alternatives, and unique techniques to accommodate new products, processes, and technology.
    • Ability to lift and/or maneuver objects weighing thirty to fifty pounds.
    •  Ability to work in difficult working conditions which may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals periods of time.
