Shipping Operator - 2nd Shift

Title: Shipping Operator

Status: Hourly

Shift: 2nd

Reports To: Shipping Manager

Location: Mentor

Positions Available: 1

Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred, and may be substituted by experience.

 

Work Experience: Minimum of 1-year experience in a shipping & receiving environment.  Must be qualified and certified to operate a forklift truck (training provided).  Clerical/Computer ability required

Requirements:

  • Computer skills required.
  • Time Management skills.
  • Able to meet deadlines and be accountable for daily shipments. 
  • Able to work flexible hours including weekends and off hours to support customer shipments.
  • Have strong sense of urgency with the ability to work independently.
  • Maintain a positive relationship with vendors, suppliers, customers, contractors, and operations.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to understand and interpret SOPs, EPs, and detailed work instructions.

Responsibility:                   

  • Responsible for satisfying all quality and productivity requirements in the most cost-effective manner.
  • Schedule/coordinate customer shipments and trucking needs.
  • Work with management and quality to determine what is required for weekly shipment plans.
  • Work with Production Control/Sales to meet weekly customer commitments for casting sales.
  • Problem solving on any shipment errors.
  • Follow and enforce all safety rules.

Specific Duties:

  • Identifies, implements, and tracks cost reduction activities for trucking related issues.
  • Coordinate shipping and trucking companies and prepare shipment paperwork, including Customs documentation for all PCC customers.
  • Prepares labels, waybills, export declarations, certifications, special attachments, government forms, BOL.
  • Affixes shipping labels on packed cartons
  • Prepare final outgoing shipments including weighing, quantity, verification, banding, commercial documents, and loading on to common carrier trucks
  • Track and provide PODs to customers/vendors
  • Proactively communicates issues, shortages, or problems to Operations Manager, indirect purchasing, and/or Customer Services Representatives;
  • Track inventory on shipping containers and supplies
  • Determine method of shipment, utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates
  • Invoice customer shipments as needed
  • Maintain inventory of dock supplies - corrugated container/miscellaneous dock supplies
  • Monitor forklift daily checks and report any findings
  • Monitor truck traffic to align with business needs.
  • Organizes work for smooth operations. Ensure that required documentation is maintained.
  • Provide the shift to shift communication link in order to keep all team members working toward the same goals
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere
  • Meet the specific requirements of the efficiency standard as established by supervision
  • Any and all additional responsibilities as required or assigned.
