Summary

The primary job function is to monitor process and equipment quality-integrity to identify problems and implement solutions, with a primary emphasis on vacuum equipment related functions, including capital projects to improve VIM equipment capabilities. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work safely. Adhere to all company and regulatory EH&S policies and procedures and ensure all employees are working in this safe manner. Look for safety issues and offer safety suggestions.
  • Adhere to all Company 6-S initiatives and policies.
  • Prepare, review, and approve chemistry certification for air and vacuum finished goods, issue concession request.
  • Lead the effort of process and equipment improvement relating to melting and alloy production.
  • Manage Technical Documentation System (CRMPs, Specs, etc.)
  • Develop and implement process control system Analyze Process Control Trends, Investigate Unexpected Lab Results.
  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) of LIMS, manage updates and enhancements
  • Maintain Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) - Spec Entry & Heat Templates.
  • Provide input during specification review, ensuring alignment between customer requirements and internal capabilities.
  • Ensure Adherence to Fixed Process Requirements including but not limited to: comparing customer specification to OEM specification, confirming revert ratios outlined in CRMP fixed practice, certification templates designed to include all required customer criteria, maintaining documents related to fixed process.
  • Review Heat Sheets for completion of required testing.
  • Lead and implement continuous improvement & Zero Defect Projects (ZDP) related to technical/quality managements systems
  • Lead and facilitate root cause investigation for issues related to alloy chemistry.
  • Advise on the disposition of out of specification finished goods.
  • Lead and coordinate Lab Service requests and advise on testing plans based on customer request.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s/4 year degree in Metallurgical or Material Science Engineering required
  • 5+ Years of industry experience required
  • Experience with VIM melting and superalloys preferred

Skills/Competencies

  • Good working knowledge of all MS Office applications and internet applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have the ability to read, understand, and interpret customer and regulatory requirements NadCap, ISO9001, AS9100
  • Ability to resolve complex issues and lead projects
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to interface with all levels of organization.
  • Technical acumen in material characteristics of vacuum and air melt alloys and all aspects of C-M vacuum induction melting practices and procedures.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk or hear; frequently required to stand, walk or sit; regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms; occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The typical work environment is a standard office setting / office contained in a foundry or manufacturing setting.  The employee is occasionally required to perform work in a foundry environment with occasional exposure to work near moving mechanical parts / work in high temperatures / risk of electrical shock; the typical noise level is moderate noise.
