The controls and instrumentation specialist maintains and provides technical support for the process control asset base of the TIMET Morgantown primary melting operations (electron beam and plasma arc furnaces and the alloy line press)


Essential Functions:

  • Provides technical support to operations to troubleshoot, analyze, and provide direction to safely resolve issues with the process control asset base, improve the quality of maintenance repairs, daily equipment operation, engineered modifications, and new equipment installations

  • Ensures the reliability of process operations and controls through daily monitoring of control systems performance. This includes developing and implementing tools such as trends, histories, reports and displays to provide accurate and timely information to operations on process unit performance

  • Inspects, designs, calibrates, repairs and maintains electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic instrumentation and control devices including but not limited to various types of flow, pressure, temperature and level instruments

  • Supports process control and instrumentation hardware and software maintenance/upgrades, including on/off process migrations

  • Supports and develops process control asset base work scope for assigned production areas. Maintains an ongoing priority work list developed with operations management, engineers, maintenance, electronic technicians, and production operators

  • Provides support for the management of change (MOC) and manufacturing process experiments (MPE) process to incorporate changes to the process controls and instrumentation asset base including control configuration/ programming, logic design/testing, HMI development, and documentation

  • Work with Production Management Team to develop and work to budgets to achieve safety, quality, production, yield and cost management goals.  Initiate, lead or participate in safety, quality, production, yield and cost reduction projects/teams

  • Leads or participates in root cause analysis of process controls asset base equipment failures
  •  
  • Provides support to maintenance and capital projects, including development of hardware and logic design, testing, HMI, commissioning, start-up and documentation
  • Develops, recommends and manages the process controls asset base spare parts inventory for supported equipment/systems to reduce downtime and improve system reliability
  • Supports the training of operators, electrical technicians and plant engineers on the functionality of the process controls asset base
  • Evaluates and improves process control and instrumentation alarms for assigned production areas to improve process control and address standing alarm issues as well as reduction of bad actors
  • Communicates effectively with the operations management, maintenance, maintenance technicians, and production operators along with a wide range of personnel from various departments and divisions. This position regularly interfaces and interacts with craftsperson, vendors, contractors, and plant supervisors on process instrumentation and control issues
  • Responds to, independently evaluates, plans, and directs unexpected repair efforts during emergencies and after-hours call

  • Conduct all operations in a safe and clean environment.  Enforce all safety rules and regulations.

  • Provide improvement ideas by monitoring primary melt yield, OEE (breakdown pareto) and C/O hours.
