PURPOSE

The position is responsible for and managing the day-to-day operations on the shop floor in order to meet production demands:

  • Supervise all full time and contract personnel in the Final Inspection area.
  • Ensure products are conforming to customer and internal specifications.
  • Implement continuous improvement activities to increase the productivity of the area.
  • Ensure that all procedures and quality documentation are followed per specifications.
  • Directing production and inspection flow within the department as well as between different facilities.
  • Timely preparation of daily production reports as well as product flow breakdowns.
  • Ensuring shop floor has access to necessary equipment.
  • Responsible for maintaining safe shop floor practices including ensuring employees adhere to PPE requirements and keep a clean and organized workspace.
  • Interact with Scheduling to meet customer and internal commitments.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings to ensure dimensional deviations are properly documented.

Scheduling and Planning to meet daily production needs

Assign work and job response abilities to shop floor personal to best demand for the day.

Daily performance tracking

Evaluate daily production reports implement corrective actions to ensure production demand is meet.

Development of work Procedures

Update work procedures and or create new work procedures as needed.

Development of training procedures

Implementing plan to cross train floor operators on all equipment and maintaining   training matrix

Understanding Prints

Documenting dimensional deviations to quarantine nonconforming parts.

Supervise employees

Timely and accurate accomplishment of the above

Tasks on time.

Product Tracking

Researching product history and routing to ensure timely completion of manufacturing and testing.


CHALLENGES:

  • Production Planning and scheduling for fast moving environment.
  • Accurately prioritizing daily work and throughput.
  • Producing consistent reports to alert departments of product flow/routing.
  • Improve efficiency of processes to increase productivity.
  • Managing shop floor while still completing daily tasks and requests.
  • Supervise and assist all employees in achieving the above.
  • Ensure that the above operations are performed in a safe and environmentally friendly manner.

REQUIREMENTS - EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Position needs minimum 3-5 years of experience in manufacturing or similar military experience.
  • A Bachelor’s degree is preferred for this position – a degree in engineering is a plus.
  • Supervisory experience in a union environment is a plus.
  • Position needs to be able to drive change and work with others to continuously improve processes.
  • Ability to periodically work weekends.

SPECIAL SKILLS:

  • Strong leadership skills 
  • Familiarity with machining processes and CMMs is a plus. 
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and achieve production deadlines. 
  • Knowledge of NDT 
  • Knowledge of GD&T. 
  • Computer literacy. Experience with Windows, Oracle and Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
