Summary

The Safety Coordinator position establishes and promotes the maintenance of a safe, accident free, and healthy work environment by performing the following duties personally or through Supervisors and Managers at the New Hartford and Dunkirk plants.

Essential Functions

·       Working with EHS Manager and Director of Operations to help to develop annual Strategic Safety Plan.

·       Makes studies and analyses of industrial accident causes and hazards to health for use by company personnel and outside agencies.

·        Formulates general safety programs, policies and procedures to be followed by company or plant personnel in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.

·       Develop, promote & maintain a health and safety-oriented work culture among employees.

·       Consults with all departments on design and use of equipment, shops, fire prevention and safety programs.

·       Inspects facilities to detect existing or potential safety and health hazards and recommends corrective or preventative measures where indicated.

·       Follows up on safety related corrective actions and controls to ensure their implementation in a timely manner.

·       Keeps managers and employees alerted as to the hazards of working with toxic fumes, dangerous chemicals, and any other hazardous substances.  This may include employee training, auditing chemical labeling practices and managing the SDS database.
Work with company insurance provider to perform the applicable industrial hygiene sampling as needed.

·       Participates in the investigation of accidents and injuries and cooperates in the preparation of material and evidence for organization use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations.

·       Compiles and submits accident reports and recordkeeping required by regulatory agencies as well as for internal reporting purposes as well.

·       Develops, supervises, and coordinates safety training programs, media, and safe operating procedures which will increase proficiency in safe practices and promote safety consciousness.

·       Represents the organization in community or industry safety groups and programs.

·       Ensure compliance to SDS programs and maintenance of the SDS program.

·       Update and manage the department safety records including Gensuite and audits maintained in Sharepoint.

·       Recommend process and product safety features that will reduce employees' exposure to work hazards.

·       Writes weekly Safety Contacts that Supervisors review with employees

·       Responsible for executing and supporting the quality 6S system and procedures in the effort for continuous improvement.

·       Coordinates the safety shoe program, prescription safety glasses program, and any other safety related programs.

·       Assists in field audits and the promotion of a safe and healthy work environment on the distribution side of the business by working closely with the EHS Manager, location managers and employees.

·       Conducts job safety analysis and Process Hazard Assessments on assigned tasks and jobs

·       Performs Machine Guarding Assessments on various machinery in the plant

·       Conducts 10 Count Safety Audits of employees and engages with employees in the process.

·       Communicates safety culture policies, and programs with all safety personnel to ensure consistency throughout company operations.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • A Bachelor's Degree in a safety-related field and 3-5 years Safety and Health experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1 to 3 years’ experience developing and administering safety and health programs & training.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA General Industry Standards.
  • Excellent communication and group presentation skills with the capacity to be proactive and influence others.
  • Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities and ensure that plans, guidance and advice is accurate, timely and effective.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work and be flexible and available for on call hours before and/or after normal business hours in addition to off-shift hours as required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office computer software applications including power point.
  • OSHA 10 Hour General Industry card & current FA/CPR/AED first responder training a plus.
  • This position requires approx. 20% overnight travel.

For informational purposes only, the range of pay for this role is $67200 to $83900 US Dollar (USD) Salaried based on a variety of factors.  For informational purposes only, this role is eligible to participate in the Company’s Quarterly Cash Bonus Plan, paid out at the quarterly bonus factor of 1.5X the Company’s bonus multiple, based on the Company’s performance in the applicable quarter. Employees will receive 120 hours paid time off every year. Employees will also receive 10 paid holidays. Employees (and their families) are eligible to participate in the company's medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are eligible to enroll in the Company’s 401(k) plan.
