Responsible for establishing and maintaining production schedules in one or more departments; either first operations or complex second operation departments.

  • Maintain scheduling boards listing each job in run sequence by machine and facility code. 
  • Maintain listing of jobs waiting tools. 
  • Review master schedules and machine schedules continuously to insure that the established sequence is followed. 
  • Schedule jobs according to start date, machine capacity and priority. 
  • Make recommendations to modify schedules to minimize setup and changeovers and improve production efficiency. 
  • Coordinate significant schedule changes with Production Control. 
  • Break in and modify schedules to accommodate high priority orders. 
  • Review and update reports with latest tool availability. 
  • Prepare computer input to move orders off limbo report when complete tool order is received. 
  • Prepare input to move work to next operation. 
  • Forward material requisitions to steel shed when order is scheduled to start. 
  • Insure the necessary tools, material, drawings, methods, tool layouts, etc. are available for each order when scheduled to run. 
  • Update master tool lists. 
  • Identify need and priority for tools and prepare daily priority list of tools needed to maintain production schedules and delivery commitments. 
  • Advise Production Control or supervision regarding status of any orders, materials problems, potential bottlenecks and tooling problems. 
  • Weigh-in work and move to other departments as required. 
  • Maintain log books and department records. 
  • Maintain an accurate “Open Order File”, update and correct related computer reports to accurately reflect the status of all orders, including current production counts, production rates, 947’s, material balance requisitions and special instructions from Engineering and Production Control. 
  • Maintain machine loading schedule to efficiently distribute work load and recognize critical load situations.
  • Check steel dates and production counts for accuracy. 
  • Break shop load down by departments, facility, hours and number of reports.  Deliver production reporting input to MIS data center. 
  • Prepare list of premium dollar, priority and past due orders by department, facility and hours for production. 
  • Provide production with accurate daily balances to run on each order to eliminate over run and shortage variances. 
  • Update the priority job list continually and adjust the machine loading schedule accordingly. 
  • Coordinate scheduling efforts with other shifts. 
  • Check incoming and outgoing work areas and insure work is moving on schedule. 
  • Review future orders and machine loading in other departments and schedule to avoid potential capacity problems. 
  • Maintain files and records related to material, tooling availability, completed orders and first operation production. 
  • Perform other duties as necessary and appropriate to position. 
2 plus years of experience in a Production Planner role
Basic knowledge of arithmetic, English and grammar
Thorough knowledge of a specialized or technical field such as cost or general accounting, mechanical, electrical, or chemical technology
Use judgment to analyze facts and determine action using a wide range of procedures within the limits of standard practice
Plans own work for a wide range of procedures after objectives set b Supervisor, refers only unusual cases to supervision
