Primary Function:  A Team Lead, in addition to performing normal duties in respective job classification, participates in directing and supervising department operations while ensuring throughput, productivity, cycle time and quality goals are met.

 

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:            

 

  1. Employee Relations
    1. Assist in employee development and advancement through the grade system.
      1. Ensure hard starts / hard stops at break time, lunch time, and shift change.
      2. Ensure personnel adhere and work to procedures as required.
      3. Ensure employees are in compliance with company policy.
      4. Participate in hiring, scheduling, directing and developing employees.
      5. Participate in disciplinary action up to and including termination when necessary.
        1. Responsible for providing on the job training for employees.
        2. Instill safe work behaviors in employees in team. Train in use of PPE and safe work practices.  Identify and report on unsafe conditions in a timely manner.
        3. Participate in safety meetings.

         

        1. Planning
          1. Prioritize and assign work to meet daily goals:
            1. Throughput
            2. ESH Productivity
            3. VC/ESH
          2. Plans efficiently around key activities in assigned work department.
          3. Effectively utilizes employee skill sets to complete work tasks efficiently.
          4. Meet internal/external customer requirements to deliver product on time and within specification.
          5. Proactively cooperate between departments and share resources when needed to meet plant goals and objectives.

         

        1. Process Control
          1. Responsible for the preventative maintenance of machines within department.

           

           

          1. Process Improvement
            1. Supports initiatives to reduce scrap and rework and actively supports continuous improvement initiatives.
            2. Maintain lean practices within department.

           

           

           

          1. Other Duties
            1. Reports in a timely manner all issues having a negative impact on productivity such as absenteeism, unacceptable work behaviors and performance.
            2. Reports in a timely manner any issue that has an adverse impact on meeting production, quality, or safety requirements.
            3. Responsible for calibration of instruments within department.
            4. Actively supports all management policies, programs, and procedures.
            5. Performs other duties of greater or lesser complexity as required by the position or assigned by supervision.
            6. Job duties may include limited management of employees managing hazardous waste. Comprehensive hazardous waste training will be required annually for those Team Leaders engaged in hazardous waste management activities.

           

          Minimum Job Requirements:         

           

          1. Ability to work in a production environment.
          2. Understand and adopt lean manufacturing principles.

          4. Previous manufacturing experience.
          5. Able to read and comprehend English.
          6. High School Diploma or GED.
          7. Able to multi-task under pressure.

          Desired Competencies:     

           

          1. 2-year degree in business or related technical field highly preferred.
          2. 2-4 years of experience working in a manufacturing environment

          Basic understanding of Six Sigma principles
