SUMMARY: Performs all service work necessary to support the forging operation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Verify proper dies are assembled in the press by using set up sheet/drawings.
  • Responsible for assisting the press operator on set up and tear down of press dies; also checks that the throat opening, and guide tube are aligned. Assures clamps are in open or closed positions as required. Report any die wear or abnormalities to operator or supervisor.
  • Checks lube equipment prior to running job and lubes dies according to lube procedure on weight ticket/procedure sheet.
  • Centers material on press. Blows scale and debris out of set-ups. Maintains clean dies. Blows scale off hot parts, blocking bases, and pots by using a blow pipe.
  • Sets laydown machine in proper position prior to running the first piece.
  • Assists with shop clean up and maintains 6S standards. 
  • Builds and teardown die top and bottom die set-ups per procedure. Confirms die part and serial numbers.
  • Move dies and parts on forklift to their appropriate places.
  • Verifies parts and serials. Maintains part and serial traceability.  Heats and coats parts per procedure.
  • Complies with all safety, quality, and ethical policies. Wears required PPE in shop areas.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee frequently works in high, precarious places and is frequently exposed to extreme heat.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Hearing protection is required in the shop area.
