With more than 120 operations and approximately 20,000 employees worldwide, Precision Castparts Corp. is the market leader in manufacturing large, complex structural investment castings, airfoil castings, forged components, aerostructures and highly engineered, critical fasteners for aerospace applications. In addition, we are the leading producer of airfoil castings for the industrial gas turbine market. We also manufacture extruded seamless pipe, fittings, and forgings for power generation and oil & gas applications; commercial and military airframe aerostructures; and metal alloys and other materials for the casting and forging industries. With such critical applications, we insist on quality and dependability – not just in the materials and products we make, but in the people we recruit.

PCC is relentless in its dedication to being a high-quality, low-cost and on-time producer; delivering the highest value to its customers while continually pursuing strategic, profitable growth.

In 2016, Berkshire Hathaway, led by Chairman and CEO Warren E. Buffett, acquired Precision Castparts Corp.

SCHEDULE:

Monday through Friday

MISSION:

Provide overall campus tool and fixture design and build procurement activities and design analysis for investment cast processes.  Ensure wax assemblies, molds and fixtures are designed properly to meet function, safety and performance requirements through the use and application of CAD and Stress Analysis engineering and software tools.

Ensure timely tooling/fixture deliveries to meet development and production schedules.  Provide full responsibility for cost, design, build and delivery of new or revised tooling and fixtures.  Support cost reduction goals and pursue alternative and improved methods of manufacturing to achieve company quality, cost and delivery objectives.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Review and process proposed tooling packages for supplier quotation, design and build.
  • Provide tooling and process design support using Solidworks or similar CAD, to include stress analysis (FEA).
  • Create 3D CAD models of tooling and related process assemblies. Perform design analysis using FEA software to include meshing, calculations and post processing and evaluation of results.
  • Process Request For Quotations (RFQ’s) and write Z level purchase orders.
  • Track supplier deliveries, close out invoices, work-orders and sign-off fixture drawings.
  • Visit supplier shops to review construction progress and resolve technical issues by coordinating between suppliers, manufacturing or engineering.
  • Create and maintain fixture lifecycle history, to include quotations, designs, work-orders and all pertinent documentation.
  • Develop and maintain procedures and apply novel techniques using advanced engineering software tools to meet engineering, tooling and manufacturing requirements in most cost-effective manner.
  • Provide assistance in customer tooling audits.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Requires a minimum of 8 years tooling/fixture design and procurement to include in-depth knowledge and experience in the areas of tool design, stress analysis, fabrication, machining and welding and materials application to tooling.
  • Requires a broad range of tooling knowledge, to include dimensional gaging, machining holding fixtures, templates and part handling equipment utilizing multi-axes controls.
  • Requires education and experience with statics and strength of materials, stress analysis fundamentals. Preference given to applicants with strong FEA experience.
  • Requires a good understanding of engineering design drawing practices and revision control, geometric dimensioning and tolerance standards per ANSI-Y14.5.
  • Must demonstrate ability to properly interpret and apply aerospace engineering drawing and dimensional requirements to fixture and tooling and machining functions.
  • BS degree in engineering or minimally A.S. degree required in an engineering/technical degree program combined with 8 to 12 years of tool engineering hands on experience.
  • Proficient in the use of Solidworks or other CAD software for tool or product design.
  • Must be comfortable in handling high volume tooling quotation and order requests and be able to resolve technical, cost or delivery issues amongst suppliers and designers.
  • Experience using common MS-Office products Excel, Word, Access and Outlook.
