Incumbent provides expert judgment and analysis for the design, development and implementation of products, processes, plans and procedures.  Designs methods to improve efficiency in production, reduce process variability and assure compliance with approved methods and quality standards exercising discretion and independent judgment in the evaluation of possible courses of conduct and acting or making decisions after the various possibilities have been considered. Effective decisions will typically result in successful part programs and considerable financial benefit to the company. This position reports to the Division Engineering Director


Essential Job Functions:

  • Identify and address safety considerations within the scope of job responsibilities.
  • Work with engineering and process control teams of all Structurals plants in solving technical and engineering issues and completing cost saving projects.
  • Actively engage with manufacturing personnel to thoroughly understand the nuances of the casting process.
  • Facilitate the correction of casting quality problems and implementing cost savings opportunities.
  • Work with customers to ensure that specifications and inspection acceptance criteria are compatible with process capabilities through concurrent engineering. Ensure that product of the manufacturing process meet these requirements.
  • Review costs of specific operations and pursue appropriate cost reduction programs.
  • Design processes and gating to optimize metallurgical quality while maintaining dimensional quality.
  • Collaborate with QA and production personnel to support product qualification and discrepancy documentation for customer review.
  • Issue technique cards and work instructions.
  • Interact with and coordinate with suppliers.
  • Establish detailed milestone plans for projects.
  • Prepare work instructions and part routers.
  • Support the preparation of quotations.
  • Support the dimensional and tooling engineering.
  • Support the cross-Division communications on technical or engineering advances.


REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Engineers, production employees and various levels of management of Structurals Division and plants   
    - Discuss product related issues.
    - Requires tact, leadership, and influence.

External: Customers, vendors    
    - Discuss product design issues and procedures. 

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Requires a minimum bachelor’s degree in mechanical, materials, metallurgical, ceramics, industrial, or chemical engineering. Other majors related to metal casting will also be considered.
  • Knowledge and experiences in the metal casting, especially investment casting, industry are preferred.
  • Experiences using Computer Aided Design (such as SolidWorks or Unigraphics) and Statistical programs (such as Minitab or JMP) are preferred.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated ability in engineering principles and disciplines; employed manufacturing processes; statistical analysis (data correlation); technical report and article preparation; preparing specifications; ability to define, plan, and complete major projects; ability to supervise/direct activities of professionals with diverse expertise.
