Metrologist Summary

The Measurement Systems Engineer will lead all measuring systems programs at TIMET Toronto. This position is responsible for ensuring measuring and test equipment is fit for purpose and aligned with customer expectations and keeps pace with technical advancements in various measuring and test equipment.

Essential Functions

Manage the GAGEpack system for all calibrated measuring and monitoring equipment, including NDT

Manage annual maintenance agreement for GAGEpack licenses (purchasing, disbursement of licenses/update codes, training)

Manage procurement and retention of vendor accreditation documents

Develop new vendors/audit existing vendors

Directly supervise union employees in preventive maintenance of internal monitoring and measuring equipment

Assist with overflow of preventive maintenance  of internal monitoring and measuring equipment

Manage all secondary standards and ensure calibration intervals and associated documentation are maintained/retained

Provide direction of and consultation for department leads on measurement systems needs (new equipment, etc.)

Manage department leads on required recalls of measuring equipment

Develop and disposition quality notifications for measurement systems deemed insufficient based on best practices developed

Lead engineering/QA/IT on development and implementation of improved inspection technologies and techniques as the plant subject matter expert

Liaise with external providers to arrange for quotes and issue purchase orders on GOA

Develop internal measurement systems/inspection procedures

Provide internal training on measurement systems/inspection tools, techniques

Lead auditor of measurement systems/inspection programs

Participate in customer and re-accreditation audits on measurement systems programs

Assist in development of root cause and corrective actions related to measurement systems programs 

Additional Responsibilities

Will lead the TIMET Toronto Measurement System Analysis (MSA) program, up to and including development of process capability metrics and control plans (Zero Defects Program).

Would have the authority to manage other salaried positions as it relates to measurement systems programs

Would take the lead on procedure development/revision related to inspection/ measurement systems

Would take the lead on internal auditing (and responding to external audits) on inspection/ measurement systems programs

Would take the lead on internal training related to measurement systems programs and measurement tool usage

Would be pivotal in providing insight when new measurement methods/equipment are being considered/introduced

Would report directly through either the QA or Laboratory Manager and assume projects related to inspection/ measurement systems programs, as assigned

Qualifications

Competencies:

Trained in AS9100/ISO 9001 quality standards, customer requirements, ISO 17025, ISO 10012, and any ancillary measurement systems quality standards

Trained practitioner in Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA)

Trained practitioner in various metrology concepts/practices (including continuing education)

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, assertive personality, strong organizational skills, proficient with multi-tasking priorities.  Eagerness to work in a fast paced, team oriented, quality oriented, results driven company.  Ability to manage high workloads.

Education and Experience

2- to 4-year degree in a technical/engineering discipline with specific focus on industrial metrology preferred

Preferred 5 years minimum experience in a manufacturing environment managing an industrial metrology program

Special Skills

Strong knowledge of statistical concepts, and software tools used in metrology (e.g., Minitab, or similar)

Additional Notes

Familiarity/experience with aerospace OEM and industry standards (e.g., SAE, ASTM)  inspection requirements a plus.
