PURPOSE:

Under limited supervision, perform all required duties to prepare a variety of extruded shapes for use in construction of runner systems following established methods and procedures.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Obtain reusable wax from autoclave or other areas; when available prepare virgin wax following set formula if necessary. 
  • Operate automatic temperature controlled melt pot to melt waxes, blend and make specified additions, pour to form extruder “slugs”.  Store “slugs” in designated storage area.
  • Work from written and/or verbal instructions to select and set specified extrusion head for required cross-sectional area and configuration. 
  • Supply “slugs” to extruder and operate as necessary to form required quantities of extruded stock.  Store following established practice. 
  • Make ordinary operating adjustments of pressure, temperature, and other elements as necessary.
  • Maintain adequate supply of liquid wax for all base machines, and all dip tanks in Gating area.
  • Maintain simple work records as directed and perform other duties as required.
  • Operate wax injection presses.
  • Detect and report defective materials, improper operation; refer questionable matters to proper supervision. 
  • Maintain work area (s) and equipment in a clean and orderly condition. 
  • Follow prescribed safety regulations.
  • Perform a variety of other duties and tasks of equal or lesser complexity as assigned by supervisor.

SPECIAL SKILLS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Performs all required operations to fabricate runner systems for a wide range of assemblies following established methods/procedures.
  • Prepares bases and runner systems for a wide range of assembly types. 
  • Must be willing and able to crosstrain and/or work in other Departments.
  • Maintains production standards with acceptable quality.
  • May work from releases, route cards, and schedules to prepare and supply gating operations with required bases and runners.
  • Perform repetitive extrusion and/or related operations.  Requires the use of some judgement to perform generally repetitive operations to produce extruded shapes for use in runner systems or the waxing procedures, perform various assigned duties safely and effectively.  Operates injection equipment to produce a full range of base requirements following established methods and procedures.  Cleans, assembles molds injects waxes, disassembles molds injects waxes, disassemble, remove and inspect work.  Report unusual occurrences to Supervisor.
  • Moderate physical effort handling wax slugs, blocks of melted wax , trays of runners, buckets of wax, etc.  Works with and moves material weighing 15 to 35 lbs.
  • Continuous mental or visual attention in handling materials, making simple machine changeover, adjusting and operating, storing finished work, and performing other related duties.  Duties require content alertness.

 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Reports to the wax lead person and the wax supervisor.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Able to read, write, count, comply with instructions and prescribed operating procedures.  Simple use of formulas.  Work from shop orders, written and verbal instructions.  Interprets rule gauges, calipers, etc.
  • Requires use of mathematics and simple formulas.
  • 3 to 6 months experience.

 

This position requires use of information or access to production processes subject to national security controls under U.S. export control laws and regulations (including, but not limited to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR)). To be qualified to work in this facility, a successful applicant must be a U.S. Person, as defined in those regulations, and able to supply evidence of that qualification prior to starting work or be authorized to receive controlled information under a specific license or permission from the relevant government agency.
