PCC Mason, located just north of Cincinnati, OH is an advanced manufacturing center of excellence for Precision Castparts Corporation's Fasteners Division focused on developing innovative production capabilities used in the manufacturing of aerospace fasteners.


The primary responsibilities of the Thread Roll Operator focus on the setup, running, monitoring & troubleshooting of high-volume fastener manufacturing machines/processes such as flat die thread rolling, drill & broach & fillet roll machines within a highly automated aerospace fastener manufacturing line.

Applicants should be very hands on with good mechanical aptitude & attention to detail.  Prior manufacturing experience in high volume fastener or other tight tolerance manufacturing processes is required. Experience and familiarity with forming processes such as flat die & planetary thread rolling, cold heading and/or other forming/forging processes is highly desired. Applicants should demonstrate strong initiative and basic math skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work safely by adhering to relevant Environmental, Safety & Health (EH&S) procedures & proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Set up and operate machines that automatically perform multi-operations.
  • Perform first piece and in-process inspections with visual & other inspection equipment such as micrometers, calipers, etc. to ensure adherence to quality specifications.
  • Adjust machine setup/controls to synchronize machine actions for various operations as well as ensure parts produced are within specifications.
  • Detect machine malfunctions and verify that machine setups conform to specifications.
  • Read blueprints to determine specified tolerances and sequences of operations for machine setup.
  • Perform developmental set-ups and prototyping on new parts.
  • Repair, maintain, and/or replace tooling when worn, broken or out of tolerance.
  • Remove tooling from machines when production runs are finished.
  • Use forklift and hand truck to bring and remove supplies as needed.

Required Skills

  • Ability to setup & maintain high precision CNC/PLC forming & machining centers with very high degree of repeatability by following standard work instructions.
  • Adjust machine setups, offsets & change tooling as required to ensure compliance to product & quality requirements.
  • Ability to set up in-process inspection equipment such as Force monitors (Marposs), touch probes, etc., interpret results and determine response actions.
  • Ability to multitask & keep multiple machines running concurrently to specifications.
  • Familiarity with shop floor ERP systems to correctly interpret work orders.
  • Able to work overtime as needed.
  • Work in a team environment, i.e. follow instructions and assist others as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Experience & Education                                              

  • High School Diploma or GED with experience or vocational/technical certification required. Associates degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years CNC/PLC machine tool experience; experience with thread rolling machinery such as SACMA Ingramatic, Waterbury, Reed, Hartford or cold heading machinery, such as National, Carlo Salvi etc. in a fast-paced environment is highly preferred.
  • Prior experience of operating FANUC robots will be a plus.
  • Machine Tool Knowledge: Familiarity with using and programming manual, semi-automated, or automated tools and machines (such as lathes and grinders).
  • Precision Skills: Ability to use precision tools (e.g., calipers) to take accurate measurements.
  • Material Understanding: Knowledge of the properties of metal and other materials.
  • Blueprint Reading: Capability to read blueprints, schematics, and manuals.

Physical Requirements

  • Standing for prolonged periods of time – up to 8 hours or more per day.
  • Frequent lifting of objects up to 30 pounds.
  • Noise level is usually moderate.
  • Fast-paced environment, subject to numerous schedule and priority changes and short notice activity.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers to handle and/or adjust equipment.
  • Moderate reaching, pushing, pulling, gripping, and grasping.
  • Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel toed work boots or shoes.
