JOB TITLE:                          PREHEAT OPERATOR    

 

DEPARTMENT:                  FOUNDRY

JOB FUNCTION:

 

The Preheat Operator must be able to perform all operations and operate equipment efficiently, including knockout and pre-heat.

 

 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Check all tags for proper identification.

 

  • Remove test material and place in tray with mold tag for kevex check, run kevex unit when required.

 

  • Knock out mold with automatic air hammer, hand, waterjet blast.

 

  • Start routing card process.  Stamp heat number on casting for identification, record lot control as required.

 

  • Cut-off castings, trim excess gatings.

 

  • Lift and dump 55 gallon barrels containing molds (using approved lifting devices).

 

  • Mold set-up on Equiax Furnaces. Assist in maintaining furnaces.

 

  • Operate and maintain preheat furnaces as required to efficiently produce quality casting. Be able to interpret and perform OI and PES instructions

 

  • Able and willing to meet plant and department goals of cost, quality, safety and delivery.

 

  • Be able and willing to train new operators and encourage team skills.

 

  • Record all work performed and all necessary information on logs as prescribed in Engineering, Process Control, and supervision.

 

  • Visually inspect work for obvious defects.

 

  • Keep work area clean, orderly and in a safe working condition, follow all safety rules.  Meet 6S standards for housekeeping and safety.

 

  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that gets along with customers, clients, co-workers, and supervisors.

 

  • Operate forklift.  Follow written and verbal instructions.  Communicate well between shifts.

 

 

EDUCATION:

 

High school education.  Able to read, write, and document information.  Ability to read, interpret, and perform requirements set forth in OI and PES.

 

 

EXPERIENCE:

 

One week Basic OJT training.  Two months Technique.

 

 

INITIATIVE AND INGENUITY:

 

Normal initiative and ingenuity.  Keep equipment maintained for optimum performance.

 

 

EFFORT:

 

Normal effort required.  Must be able to lift 20-30 pounds approximately 15 times per hour.  Hoist used for weights above 30 pounds.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITY:

 

Responsible for self.  Make sure parts meet quality standards.  Follow safety requirements.  Comply with 6S requirements.  Must be willing to work daily overtime and weekend overtime as necessary.
