Southwest United Industries was acquired by Precision Castparts Corp. in December, 2012.

Selected candidates for a Laboratory Technician position will be expected to understand chemical concepts and processing principles of chemical solutions used in this organization’s facility. Laboratory Technicians shall be fully familiarized with the set up and conducting of chemical experiments, tests, and analyses, using techniques such as spectroscopy, physical or chemical separation techniques, and titrimetric. From recorded data of tests performed, laboratory technicians at this level shall be able to prepare technical reports, graphs, or charts, and be able to recognize trends in data so that preventative measures and actions can be applied. Additionally, Laboratory Technicians will be expected to perform calibration verification and standardization of the test instruments and equipment, process solution formulization and preparation of chemical solutions for products or processes, and following proper disposal practices of chemical solutions. Candidates must be self-disciplined and self-motivated individuals with strong accountability (attention to details) skills.
  • Maintaining regular and punctual attendance according to shift-times or a pre-arranged work schedule.
  • Wear and maintain proper personal equipment (PPE).
  • Perform daily collect samples of chemicals and solutions.
  • Perform process control and solution control testing and monitoring, and recognize trends in data.
  • Read, comprehend and apply customer specification requirements for chemical and solutions control.
  • Document and maintain laboratory records.
  • Process solution formulation, neutralization, and disposal.
  • Operate and standardize laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and sterile work area, equipment, and lab ware.
  • Performs calibration verification and standardization of the test instruments and/or equipment.
  • Orders and inventories materials/chemicals to maintain necessary supplies.
  • Operator is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Basic computers skills (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, and other laboratory software programs).
  • Excellent vision (whether or not corrected) including normal color vision.
  • Ability to work alone or as a member of a team, good cooperative skills.
  • Ability to perform basic math (add, subtract, multiply, & divide). Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and interpret bar graphs. Knowledge of the metric system units (length, area, volume, capacity, mass, and weight) and U.S. equivalents. Ability to apply concept of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Knowledge of internal laboratory procedures and protocols.
  • A basic knowledge of chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods.
  • Follow all policies, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Ability to read, write and speak the English language.
  • Must be detail oriented and quick learner.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Good communicator with ability to represent the Company in a positive manner.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 4-year college degree in Chemistry, 2-year minimum community college education in chemistry, or at least 1 year documented experience in similar position is preferred.
  • Experience relative to (1) year minimum as a Level 1 Laboratory Technician.
  • Documented on-the-job training provided by SWUC as described in SWUC Quality Management system
