Coordinate operations of waste plant activity over three shifts.  Order and maintain adequate inventory of supplies for the waste treatment plant.
Coordinate operations of waste plant activity over three shifts.  Order and maintain adequate inventory of supplies for the waste treatment plant.  Operate waste water treatment plant to sufficiently purify industrial waste water prior to emptying into sewer systems in accordance with POTW, state and federal EPA requirements.  Receive waste water from all manufacturing processes within the company.  Separate metallic impurities from liquid by precipitation process.  Perform analysis of waste and add proper proportions of chemicals to the tanks.  Make a cyanide analysis and determine proper amount of chlorine to be added.  Send liquid through chlorination process and pump into lagoon for storage when treatment is complete.  Perform final analysis of treated waste water prior to discharge into sewer system.  Pump sludge from storage tank to sludge tank, remove excess liquid.  Inspect and keep chlorinators filled.  Maintain pre-determined minimum levels of chemicals and other purification supplies.  Continuously monitor waste oil tank and transfer to tank truck when full.  Maintain a chronological log of all test results, batches treated and work in process, including required records and samples for City of Philadelphia.  Refer unusual problems to supervisor.  Keep up to date on new techniques in waste treatment.  Make recommendations on purchase of new equipment.
The incumbent must have the ability to perform all essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.  Must have demonstrated proficiencies in skills and essential functions required for a Waste Plant Operator position and presently operate or have ability to operate listed machines and equipment with routine training and follow written and verbal instructions.
Advanced communications such as training other employees, posting, preparing, interpreting, using and checking reports, records and comparable data
Arithmetic such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, including decimals and fractions, simple use of formulas, charts, tables, drawings, specifications and schedules
Fixed gages and direct reading instruments and devices in which interpretation is not required (e.g. borescope, gage blocks, go/no-go gages, plug gages, ring gages, scales (6” or 12”), weight scales, snap gages)
Diversified operation requiring constant alertness and activity
Uses considerable judgement to plan or perform unusual or difficult work when only general methods and procedures are available
