Position Summary:

Level One: Level One Shipping / Receiving workers verify and keep records on incoming and outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment. Compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments.  Verifies information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records.  Correctly Picks up and Delivers property to various locations.

 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Receives and unloads incoming materials and compares information on packing slip with purchase order to verify accuracy of shipment; may process return shipments from customers.
  • Sorts, counts, packages, labels, ensures, unpacks, and processes receipts for incoming property; coordinates with Purchasing to correct any purchase order or material certificate discrepancies.
  • Inspects shipments for damages or defects; records discrepancies or damages and notifies supervisor and/or purchasing personnel.
  • Prepares shipments for postal or commercial conveyance; determines most economical and efficient shipping method; selects appropriate shipping container; packs items to ensure safe delivery.
  • Prepares bills of lading; checks items to be shipped against work orders to ascertain that quantities, destination, and routing are correct.
  • Traces lost shipments and/or customer claims of lost shipments; initiates proof of delivery documents.
  • May maintain department database, prepare routine reports, and file shipping/receiving records.
  • May operate dolly, pallet jack, and/or forklift in loading and unloading supplies and equipment; will band and shrink wrap palletized orders for shipment.
  • Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.
  • Work safely under functional safety guidelines such as PPE and equipment interaction
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills:

  • The ability to read and write English.
  • Forklift and overhead crane certified (Internal) 
  • The ability to perform basic shop math with fractions and decimals
  • Attention to detail
  • The ability to navigate company and shipping vendor computer systems - basic computer skills
  • The ability to read and follow work instructions and department processes
  • Ability to perform tasks with deadlines and timeframes 

 

Required Experience:

  • 0-2 years of recently related or relevant work history or training
  • Prior knowledge of postal or commercial shipping methods and procedures

 

Level of Education:

  • High School diploma or GED is expected
