Mission:
To operate a variety of conventional machining tools and equipment, including Electrical Discharge Machines (E.D.M.) and Computerized Numeric Controlled Machines (CNC); to machine castings to customer dimensional and configuration specifications; to measure and dimensionally inspect castings using a variety of measuring devices.


Principal Accountabilities:
1.    Machining:
Objective: To machine castings, including gate removal, without mutilation and within customer specification, according to print.
Essential Job Functions:
A.    Reviews Technique Cards, process sheets, blueprints, and drawings.
B.    Measures and positions castings using a variety of measuring devices and fixtures.
C.    Calibrates and adjusts fixtures.
D.    Reviews tooling and castings after rework or changes.
E.    Removes gates; may complete rough and finish machining.
F.    Completes precision machining of castings to proper dimensions and configurations using drill presses, mills, lathes and other machines.
G.    Visually and dimensionally inspects machined parts to assure quality of castings and compliance with PCC and customer specifications.
H.    Participates in first article inspections.
I.    Reviews tooling and castings after rework or changes.
J.    Performs preventive maintenance on machines to optimize machine life.
K.    Meet or exceed department quality, productivity and efficiency averages.
L.    Completes all logs and records, including quality deviation reports, standard corrections and Technique Card revisions.

2.    Safety:
Objective: To take responsibility for and demonstrate safe work practices.
Essential Job Functions:
A.    Adheres to plant and department safety rules.
B.    Safely operates all machines and equipment.
C.    Uses safety equipment and lifting equipment when applicable.
D.    Identifies and reports safety problems.
E.    Performs other tasks related to safety (5-S program).
F.    Meets all production and quality standards.


Other Accountabilities:
1.    Assist Jig Fixture personnel with job quotes and evaluations as needed.
2.    Communicates knowledge of machinery and casting to less experienced     personnel; may train as assigned.
3.    May be required to handle hazardous waste.

H.    Basic hand tools (e.g. wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, etc.)

Training:
A.    Training is provided on the job.
B.    PCC’s Forklift Driving Safety Certification must be completed.
C.    May be required to complete Hazardous Waste Management Training.


Qualifications:
A.    Completion of machine technology program or apprenticeship and precision machining experience or an equivalent combination of training and precision machining experience.
B.    Ability to read, interpret and follow specifications on Technique Cards and technical manuals.
C.    Thorough knowledge of CNC machine functions, tooling and setup procedures.
D.    Ability to work independently and meet timeline schedules.
E.    Ability to read and use dimensional tools.
F.    Ability to recognize, evaluate and respond to problems during the machining process.
G.    Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
H.    Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations. (Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
I.    Physical ability to perform the essential job functions.
J.    Basic knowledge of tooling and setup procedures preferred.

NOTE: Production Machinists must supply their own full compliment of hand tools to satisfactorily meet quality requirements of the position.
