Cherry Aerospace is a global leader in the design and manufacture of multi-piece fastening systems for the aerospace industry. The Cherry® name is synonymous with aerospace rivets, and the CherryMax® line of rivets is the most widely-used in the industry.

The Cherry® brand dates back to 1940 when Cherry Rivet Company introduced easily-installed blind fasteners, which were quickly adopted as an aerospace industry standard. In 2016, SPS Technologies Santa Ana began the consolidation into Cherry Aerospace. SPS Technologies, Santa Ana specializes in the development and manufacture of fastener assemblies including nut plates, channel nuts, panel fasteners, studs and inserts, and self-retaining bolts for commercial and military applications. The consolidation combines the synergy of two fastener organizations to create a best-in-class facility.

As a senior engineer on the Cherry Aerospace and SPS Technologies team, you’ll diagnose production issues, implement major changes in operations, and create lasting improvements. Using your deep understanding of real-world manufacturing, you will provide day-to-day support, provide direction to a team of junior engineers, develop experiment processes and tools from the ground up, and lead major modernization efforts.
Lead engineering efforts to address manufacturing issues, improvement projects, and implementing production control systems.
• Provide technical leadership for product, tool, and design across the company
• Evaluate design changes, develop drawings, create and update manufacturing routers, write procedures and other engineering documentation to improve manufacturing processes and product quality
• Ensure compliance with product performance requirements, quality standards, and EHS (environmental, health, and safety) standards
• Support production by triaging manufacturing issues as they occur and coordinate response with operations and engineering leadership
• Perform root cause analysis of product quality issues using appropriate statistical and experimental methods, initiate corrective action, and implement continuous improvement solution for manufacturing processes and techniques
• Proactively identify for opportunities to improve production process and deploy new technology, as well as manage major capital expenditures and tooling acquisitions
• Manage, plan, implement, and lead projects to successful delivery against key milestones
• Provide mentorship and technical direction to junior engineers
• Perform other duties as assigned
  • B.S. Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
• 10 years in fastener manufacturing or equivalent
• Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, including heading, thread/form rolling, machining, assembly, and heat treat.
• Knowledge of material properties.
• Strong verbal and written communication, including ability to communicate design intent
• Organized and self-starting with strong project management skills
• Experience with SolidWorks, CAD, Minitab, DEFORM, Excel, LabView, and other software
• Plus: Six Sigma training/certification
• Plus: Mechanical
• Plus: Data analysis using SQL or other programming experience
