Primary Function:  Responsible for melting and pouring metal into ceramic molds to produce aluminum and steel castings.

 

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:            

 

  • Prepares and handles supplied molds to ensure castings meet quality standards.
  • Preps molds per procedures (kaowool etc.).
  • Loads molds into ovens according to production requirements.
  • Preps metal for pouring (degas, chemical additions, etc.).
  • Pulls molds from ovens and delivers to appropriate pouring location.
  • Pours metal into molds according to procedures.
  • Records all information of temperatures and times for pours into computer.
  • Performs daily verifications on Spectrometer.
  • Places parts and/or test samples in Spectrometer to certify chemistry.
  • Confirms procedures are followed.
  • Ensures staging readiness of all pours.
  • Ensures chemistry of pours.
  • Maintains lot integrity.
  • Ensures paperwork is properly done.
  • Helps other areas as needed.

 

Minimum Job Requirements:         

 

  • Able to work in a production environment.
  • Able to read and comprehend English.
  • Able to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with tens and 100s.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 35 lbs. continuously
  • Able to communicate effectively with co-workers.
  • Able to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. (Foundry log, spectrometer reports, chemical analysis.)
  • Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Able to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Able to complete OSHA forklift certification through PCC Ogden.
  • Near vision requirements are Jaeger J1 in one eye, at no less than 12 inches; or Jaeger J2 in one eye, at no less than 16 inches.
  • Complies with company and departmental policies and procedures, including company’s attendance policy.
  • Able to meet individual productivity requirements.
  • Able to meet internal quality requirements.
  • May be required to take hazardous waste training.

 

Desired Competencies:     

 

  • High school diploma or GED

  

 

Normal Working Conditions

  • Works under indirect supervision following established practices and clear-cut policies in the performance of the majority of duties. Makes decisions when general instructions, established methods and clearly defined precedents indicate action to be taken, but refers unusual problems to superiors.
  • Environmental conditions encountered continuously are fumes or airborne particles, and work near moving, mechanical parts.
  • Job duties may include limited hazardous waste management including transferring hazardous waste containers to the facility’s hazardous waste storage location.  Comprehensive hazardous waste training will be required annually for those Foundry Worker employees engaged in hazardous waste management activities.
  • Typical noise environment for the work environment of this job is Loud Noise. (Appropriate ear protection is required.)
  • Continuous required physical demands include standing, walking, using hands to handle or feel, reaching below shoulder level, balancing, talking and hearing.
  • Occasional required physical demands include driving, pushing or pulling.
