GENERAL SUMMARY:  Position dimensionally inspects castings to established requirements that satisfy production, engineering and customer requirements.  Including, checking for flatness, straightness, and dimensional requirements.  And may, subsequently bend or blend castings to achieve requirements of work instructions.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  1. Assure that castings are in a condition suitable for inspection, verifies that paperwork is complete and matches casting.
  2. Able to inspect castings as required using Optical Comparator, Surface Plate, Height Gage, Sine Plate, micrometers, calipers, dyers, telescope gage, pin gages, fixtures, etc.
  3. Ensures all required dimensions are checked. Determine if straightening is required, and the most affective method of straightening the casting.
  4. May perform straightening per the work instructions. Heat and fixture the part as required, utilizing four basic techniques: 1) press 2) hammer and punch 3)vise and wrench  4)fixture and bending bar.
  5. Capable of performing all types of hand Layout inspection requirements.
  6. Communicates inspection results by marking casting and filling out travelers, rework travelers and discrepancy tags.
  7. Work closely with engineering and supervisory personnel to resolve dimensional problems.
  8. Safely operates all equipment and tools; adheres to safety rules and report safety problems.
  9. Ensures equipment and tools are in good working condition, and calibrated.
  10. Works with New Inspectors/Straighteners as a Trainer, and advises in a positive manner.
  11. Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
  12. May be required to handle or manage hazardous waste.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  1. Requires a thorough knowledge of inspection principles.
  2. Must be competent in the use all types of measuring devices.
  3. Must be able to work all types of parts (i.e. Medical, F-22, NASA).
  4. Must have good organizational and problem solving skills.
  5. Strong blueprint reading, work instructions understanding and math skills are required.
  6. Must have the ability to work closely with engineering and management.
  7. Must be able to work varying shifts and overtime.
  8. Requires good understanding of related manufacturing processes and functions.
  9. May be required to complete hazardous waste management training.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Requires a High School diploma or equivalent.
  2. Strong inspection background is preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to read reports and use computer. Must be able to hear well enough to communicate with coworkers. Must be able to stand to open files and operate office machines, mobility between departments, and to attend meetings of employees and managers. Must be able to climb, stoop, kneel, lift, pull, and push. Must be able to write, type, and use phone systems.

PHYSICAL DIMENSIONS:
