Location Profile:

Walden’s Machine was founded in 1976 by Charlie Walden.  Primus purchased Walden’s in 2006 and PCC purchased Primus in 2011. The Company offers a complete range of products and services including high speed machining (3, 4 & 5 axis medium/complex aluminum and hard metal machining), kitting, assembly and integration, decorative coatings, airfoil/propulsion structures specialist and global supply chain management. Walden’s is a 24 hour facility and is staffed with 340 employees.

Walden’s has a reputation for market leading performance and responsiveness in high speed machining. Some of their well-known customers included, but are not limited to, Boeing, Bombardier, Spirit Aerosystems, Bell Helicopter, Airbus, and GE Aviation.  The Company is fully certified for IS0 9001 and hold Revision “C” registration for AS9100.

Position Summary:

The Engineering co-op will gain exposure to working in a fast paced manufacturing environment. The co-op will be project based but will also include exposure to day-to-day engineering operations. Assist in developing and implementing production methods for manufacturing processes. The co-op may need to collaborate with multiple departments on planning work to ensure compliance with customer quality requirements.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in planning, configuring, interpreting, and maintaining part designs based on customer requirements.
  • Review customer engineering, specifications, and configuration plans.
  • Interpret customer engineering drawings, specifications, and processes.
  • Communicate engineering changes with internal and customer teams.
  • Support business process through interpretation of engineering documentation.
  • Consult with customer and internal team members on customer build to print product nonconformance issues.
  • Ensures timely resolution/referral of user problems by understanding the impact to the user and by assigning an appropriate priority and resolution goal.
  • Completion of one Highlight project during co-op placement. This project will generally relate to continuous improvement within the department and will include a formal presentation of findings at the end of the term.

Required Skills:

  • Technical writing skills
  • Desire to gain knowledge of general aircraft parts and component machining, assembly engineering structure, configuration management principles and processes.
  • Entry knowledge of computer aided design tools (CAD/CAM, Catia)
  • Ability to manipulate data sets
  • Blueprint treading and interpretation.
  • Creative problem solving skills with strong troubleshooting skills
  • Must be able to follow both written and verbal instruction
  • Must be analytical and methodical in carrying out task and work assignments.
  • Detailed oriented – Accurate, thorough, strong work ethic, and be driven to provide a quality solution.
  • Understanding of Lean principles, techniques and philosophies

Required Experience and Education:

  • The candidate must have completed a minimum 1 year college credit, currently enrolled as a Sophomore, Junior or Senior level status at an accredited college or university in Engineering or related field of study.
  • At least 15 hours of completed engineering courses is preferred.
