Summary

This position is responsible for the procurement of various materials, supplies, and services necessary to support the company’s business activities. In addition, the purchasing manager assists in organizing the annual physical inventory.

 Primary Responsibilities

  • Purchases materials, equipment, supplies and services as required for various departments in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Selects vendors, evaluates vendor performance, develops alternative vendors and assesses vendor capabilities.  Maintains qualified vendor list for critical materials as defined in the Quality Procedures.
  • Prepares and complete data entry for purchase orders with sufficient definition to ensure the supplied item is suited for its intended use.
  • Strategically negotiates contracts for metals, scrap, refractory material, maintenance and repair items and all other equipment, services and supplies as assigned.
  • Prepares requests for quotes and coordinates selection of appropriate bidders list in conjunction with appropriate department.  Review submitted bids and selects successful bidder.
  • Expedites delivery of orders and communicates the expected delivery date.
  • Coordinates order point and delivery required of routing supplies.
  • Ensures contractors are made knowledgeable of and meet company requirements for insurance coverage, safety and environmental compliance and applicable quality specifications.
  • Assist in organizing and conducting annual physical inventory.
  • Manages tooling inventory and performs monthly inventory cycle counts to verify inventory.
  • Investigates reason for inventory adjustments to tooling items.
  • Oversees waste management including the waste disposal process.
  • Conducts analysis of industry trends and market conditions to ensure contracts/agreements are competitive and cost effective.
  • Facilitates material and supply usage reviews with key stakeholders, identifying areas of cost take out.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Four year degree in Supply Chain, business or related field
  • 5+ years of hands on experience in a materials management or purchasing function in a manufacturing organization

 PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk or hear; frequently required to stand, walk or sit; regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms; occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The typical work environment is a standard office setting / office contained in a foundry or manufacturing setting.  The employee is occasionally required to perform work in a foundry environment with occasional exposure to work near moving mechanical parts / work in high temperatures / risk of electrical shock; the typical noise level is moderate noise.
