Summary

Plan and organize shift operations in VIM/VAR/ESR/Refractory Departments. Maintain safe working conditions and economical operations.  Lead and direct personnel in all Melt Shop Operations. Provide training.

 Essential Functions

 

  • Responsible and accountable for communicating company goals/objectives/priorities to all personnel (salary and hourly) as required
  • Responsible and accountable for training and development of personnel
  • Responsible and accountable for communicating and enforcing company rules and regulations
  • Responsible for continuing involvement in safety effort, safety contacts and prompt accident investigations.
  • Responsible for interdepartmental cooperation
  • Basic shift operations on shift
  • Make sure proper procedures are followed
  • Make sure schedules are followed
  • Assist in any function to keep operation running
  • Assign manpower to job assignments
  • Help people in job assignments
  • Make sure people are working and in a safe manner
  • Assist in training of old and new jobs
  • Make sure each VIM melt is processed according to manufacturing requirements
  • Make sure each VIC/ESR melt is processed according to manning requirements
  • Maintain proper processing of remelt cutting, RCM grinding, Hand grinding, and Inspection
  • Troubleshooting problems with people involved in operation and make decisions on how to repair or correct problems
  • On major decisions, discuss and coordinate with Superintendents
  • Work with other supervisory personnel in keeping plant clean and enforcing plant and OSHA safety rules
  • Check melt sheets for all pertinent information (complete and accurate)
  • Check Spectro results. If problems arise, decide on corrective action. If melt is out of specification, contact product metallurgist for customer specification and anything that can be done to save melt. Contact Melting Superintendent with all information and decide on further processing of melt.
  • Receive information from previous shift foreman from each department and pass on information to foreman on relieving shift.
  • Maintain company policy and ensure contract rules are followed.
  • Coordinate flow of material between Bar Mill for VIC/ESR processing and melting.

Education and Experience

A high school diploma/GED is required along with at least three years of supervisory experience. The candidate must be computer literate and capable of navigating in Oracle, Lotus Notes and Microsoft Excel/Word.

Physical Dimensions

Physical Demands – Frequently moves about the production facilities.  Must be able to detect unsafe conditions from long distances.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Manual dexterity sufficient for  handling materials and data entry; regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, squat, climb; lifts objects up to 50 pounds; visual ability to read, write, supervise, inspect facilities, materials, equipment, use computers; auditory ability sufficient for instructing/directing others, use office equipment (phones, beepers/pagers)

Work Environment – The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid and dry/arid conditions.  Frequently required the use of personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazardous materials. For informational purposes only, the range of pay for this role is $80,000 to $95,000 US Dollar (USD) Salaried based on a variety of factors.  For informational purposes only, this role is eligible to participate in the Company’s Quarterly Cash Bonus Plan, paid out at the quarterly bonus factor of 1.5X the Company’s bonus multiple, based on the Company’s performance in the applicable quarter. Employees will receive 120 hours paid time off every year. Employees will also receive 10 paid holidays. Employees (and their families) are eligible to participate in the company's medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are eligible to enroll in the Company’s 401(k) plan.
