SUMMARY

As part of the Metallurgy Team at the Henderson Technical Lab, the engineer will support the PCC Metals Group by conducting and coordinating relevant experimental processing trials as well as guiding pilot plant processing operations. This role includes supporting production facilities as well longer-term development projects that contribute to growth of the business. The engineer at this level is expected to have prior work experience with non-ferrous metals and a mechanistic understanding of thermomechanical processing. A background in metallurgy related to non-ferrous metals (particularly titanium and nickel alloys) is expected. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Devise test protocols to support process/product development activities in alignment with the TIMET business and evaluations of products/components for TIMET/PCC companies
  • Provide technical support to improve production processes within TIMET plants
  • Prepare reports for internal and external audiences
  • Participate in joint industry programs
  • Provide technical support in response to inquiries made to TIMET
  • Contribute to longer term R&D projects conducting projects consistent with the Technology Roadmap
  • Guide and interpret internal and external ICME research efforts to aid in metal processing and alloy development
  • Participate in corporate wide initiatives 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Either a BS degree with 3+ years of experience, a MS, or a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience working with titanium and/or nickel alloys is required

Preferred (1 or more):

  • Experience in thermomechanical processing of non-ferrous metals
  • Experience using DEFORM or other finite element software to conduct continuum and/or crystal plasticity modeling
  • Development or use of tools to perform predictive data analytics on microstructure-property relationships
  • Experience in computational physical metallurgy including but not limited to the use of atomistic modeling, CALPHAD programs, ICME, and/or phase field modeling
  • Knowledge of titanium metallurgy
  • Knowledge of metal manufacturing technologies

SPECIAL SKILLS

  • MS Office Required
  • Preferred experience: Scanning electron microscopy, image analysis

  • Must be a US Person (Green Card OK) to support MAI programs.
  • Travel up to 20%
