Location Profile:

Position Summary:

Calculates assessments of labor and material costs of manufacturing and engineering based on Request for Proposal (RFP) data submitted by prospective customers. Collects data, prepares models, runs analysis of data, prepares reports and presents findings to management. Solicits job contracts from industrial establishments for manufacture of foundry or machine shop products by performing the following duties.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Use drawing and specification information in customer Requests for Quotes (RFQs), determine labor, material, and process hour and cost estimates for detailed parts, assemblies, and tooling
  • Analyzes specifications including sketches, blueprints, bills of material or sample layouts, and calculates production costs using labor and material pricing schedules and historical data
  • Collects cost data from functional representatives, subcontractors, and vendors
  • Computes cost estimates of raw materials or subcontracted work and labor
  • Prepares and maintains historical cost data
  • Creates cost models for cost estimating elements
  • Prepares cost reports and presents findings to management, contract personnel, proposal coordinators, customer representatives, price auditors, vendors, and subcontractors
  • Coordinate with procurement for Requests for Quotations from outside suppliers for parts, materials, hardware, standards, and surface processes
  • Prepare cost models and parametric studies
  • Prepare data for reports, presentations, status, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Coordinate with Business Development, Program and Division Management, and other support functions as required to complete estimates using company approved Excel workbooks and data sheets
  • Talks with customers in assigned territory by phone to solicit orders for such products as aerospace production parts (ex: pins, latches, struts, etc.)
  • Works with Engineering and Production Control and prepares price quotations or bids based on knowledge of material and labor costs and manufacturing schedules and processes.
  • Enters new customer data and other sales data for current customers into computer database.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with purchasing contacts.
  • Investigates and resolves customer problems with deliveries.

Required Skills:

  • Experienced in reading and interpreting manufacturing blueprints, preferably in a durable goods and or heavy manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledgeable of cost estimating methods, from detailed part bids through parametric modeling used in large-scale quotations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), CATIA and or Enovia programs.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write clear and concise reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals, and make presentations to customers and peers.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and peers.

Required Experience:

  • Experience estimating for manufacturing, aerospace preferred.
  • Typically, 2-4 years of experience.

Level of Education:

  • Engineering or Finance Degree preferred but not required.
