Location Profile:

Headquartered in Irvine, CA, Shur-Lok manufactures fastening systems with superior locking devices for critical requirements, including engine module assembly, structural assembly, rotor blade attachment, and aircraft engine shaft and spindle applications.  Operations at the Irvine location include CNC Machining, CNC Waterjet Cutting, Laser Marking, Heat Treating, NDT, and EDM.

Position Summary:

Under moderate supervision, The Centerless Grinder “B”, efficiently operates a centerless grinder(s) to grind external or internal cylindrical or tapered surfaces of metal work pieces to blueprint specifications. 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Operate a centerless grinding machine to produce parts accordingly to specifications and instructions.
  • Dress wheel to obtain proper finish and effective removal of stock.
  • Set guide rail, adjust the wheel to size, and set stop length.
  • Analyze the best grinding method, given work material. Mounts grinding wheel and regulating wheel on spindles with wrenches.
  • Positions and secures work rest at a specified height, using wrenches.
  • Lift and position the workpiece manually or with a hoist and secures it between wheels and on the work rest.
  • Starts machines and observes operation. Verifies the dimension of the groundwork-piece for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments, such as micrometers, calipers, and preset gauges.
  • Changes worn grinding wheels, using wrenches. May set up automatic work feeding device.
  • Reports malfunctioning machines to the Lead or Supervisor.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum three-year experience in the operation of centerless grinding machines.
  • Ability to read blueprints, inspect parts and obtain reference information from detail prints.
  • Set guide rail, adjust the wheel to size, and set stop length.
  • Inspect the first article and maintain the quality during the production of the lot.
  • Monitor the machine for proper operation, lubrication, and coolant level.
  • Check the condition of the grinding wheels.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Attention to detail and an attitude of 100% compliance with all company and regulatory requirements.
  • High energy level and ability to work flexible hours.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Mathematical Skill– Must have basic Mathematical skills such as Adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Measure lengths and distances and calculate areas, volumes, and weights. Able to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.
  • Blueprint Reading & Interpretation Demonstrate the ability to read and interpret the following reliably: drawing terms; call outs; symbols and/or descriptions; types of lines; front view; side view; top view; section view; types of radii; tolerances (min. and max.); external/internal thread; surface finish; fastener-related specifications.
  • Basic Visual & Dimensional Inspection– Demonstrate the ability to inspect parts reliably using the following tools: caliper (dial and digital); micrometer (stand, blade, and disk); dial drop indicator; test indicator; comparator; pin gage; gage block set; any functional gages applicable to the operator. Must have the ability to use hand tools and measuring instruments.
  • Workmanship –Demonstrate the ability to identify and take appropriate action to prevent, correct, or reject the following conditions on die and tools parts: cracks, nicks, scratches, and dents.
  • Communication –Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with team members to achieve cooperation and assistance to resolve problems and attain maximum productivity.

  • Self-motivated individual who can work independently and effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, blueprints, and procedure manuals, and write routine data on routers and company charts.
  • High School Diploma.

Shift:

  • Shift 2 Schedule: 2:15pm-10:45pm | PST
  • Shift Differential: + $1/hour on top of base pay
For informational purposes only, the range of pay for this role is $20.50 to $30.25 US Dollar (USD) Hourly based on a variety of factors.  For informational purposes only, this role is eligible to participate in the Company’s Quarterly Cash Bonus Plan, paid out at the quarterly bonus factor of 1X the Company’s bonus multiple, based on the Company’s performance in the applicable quarter. Employees will receive 80 hours paid time off every year. Employees will also receive 10 paid holidays. Employees (and their families) are eligible to participate in the company's medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are eligible to enroll in the Company’s 401(k) plan.
