The Maintenance Superintendent will oversee an assigned area of maintenance. The position is responsible for and will be held accountable for the following:

  • Safety performance of the supervisors and crews assigned to them.
  • Following and enforcing established TIMET policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that all regulatory requirements are met or exceeded.
  • Service inspections and functional inspections completed on schedule.
  • Schedule compliance.

 POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES AND SPECIFIC DUTIES

   Ensure compliance with all Safety and Environmental Standards.

     OTHER: (Administrative, documentation, and training responsibilities)

    1. Ensure the timely completion of work by providing necessary resources.
    2. Manage supervisors’ vacations, timekeeping and disciplinary actions.
    3. Coaching and mentoring of assigned work force.
    4. Rating of supervisors annually or as required by the company.
    5. Approve and coordinate overtime when necessary.
    6. Perform periodic compliance checks on worksheets that are marked completed.
    7. Maintain safety records.
    8. Oversee supervisors’ safety training, new equipment orientation, new tool applications, and selected craft skill training and education.
    9. Coach and encourage fellow workers.
    10. Understand the Collective Bargaining Agreement and enforce it’s intent.
    11. Assist in development of yearly budgets.
    12. Ensure that payroll is completed in a timely and accurate manner.
    13. Provide direction, coaching, support and instruction to all reporting positions
    14. Promote a work environment that motivates peers and subordinates.
    15. Provide manager with weekly reports including the next week goals. 

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILL and ABILITY REQUIREMENTS

    1. Two years’ maintenance supervisor experience in heavy industrial applications; prefer five years in electrical/mechanical or related field
    2. Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS) skills.
    3. Computer skills in productivity applications.
    4. Good estimating, organizational, and prioritization skills.
    5. Good planning and project management skills.
    6. Advanced communication skills, both written and oral.
    7. Advanced interpersonal skills.
    8. Good logical problem solving and analytical skills.  

    EXPERIENCE

    Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent, 2 or more years of college preferred; must have a mechanical and/or electrical work-related background. 2-4 years as a supervisor with experience in maintenance or related field.

    Preferred: 2 - 4 years’ mechanical/electrical supervisory experience with an Associates or B.S. in electrical/mechanical field. Prefer background in heavy industry, chemical or mining maintenance management.

     ACCOUNTABILITY

    Area Maintenance Superintendents are the direct link with the supervisors who direct the hourly work force. The superintendent must be proactive at all times and use the following guidelines:

    1. Enforce Company safety standards and participate in routine and special safety meeting for the work crews.
    2. Provide effective reaction to equipment emergency needs.
    3. Supervise performance of subordinates.
    4. Address equipment deficiencies.
    5. Field check for quality of work and effective use of maintenance resources.
    6. Ensure supervisors accurately capture required maintenance data.
    7. Verify and report labor availability for scheduling.
    8. Interface with planner for developing planned and scheduled maintenance work.
    9. Participate in keeping the work force current on administrative items.
    10. Monitor warehouse inventory of maintenance critical items on a weekly basis.
    11. Assist when called upon to troubleshoot equipment problems.
    12. Understand and monitor costs.
    13. Be clear and accurate with expectations of subordinates.
    14. Hold subordinates accountable for expectations.
