The Position

This metallurgist will work in the Metallurgy group.  This individual will need to maintain a high level of quality for instructions and product review. Manage daily activities to stay on schedule for our product shipment.  Develop good working relations with both internal and external customers.

JOB RESPONSIBILITES of Senior Metallurgist:

  • Interface with customers on matters pertaining to product requirements, quality and design
  • Interface with material suppliers in matters pertaining to material quality and technical design
  • Review process data and determine if parameters conform to requirements
  • Conduct failure analysis and determination of root cause and corrective actions
  • Review metallurgical test data and any non-conformances to determine if additional testing or customer approvals are needed; generate non-conformance reports as needed
  • Witness forge trial runs and participate in material review board activities, investigate any forging quality or process issues
  • Clear metallurgical related issues to assist in meeting shipping schedules
  • Develop testing and cut up plans of products, review cut up data and write reports
  • Provide instruction to forge and heat treat shops on process parameters to run parts
  • Participate in new product introduction, cost reduction and continuous improvement activities
  • Actively participate to improve product/process, productivity and cost
  • Develop full working knowledge of customer specification and quality requirements
  • Interface with Met Records, Engineering, Quality and Sales Department

REQUIREMENTS - EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy or Materials Science is required
  • Minimum 5 years forging industry experience with high temperature Titanium and Nickel aerospace alloys preferred. Strong candidates with less than 5 years’ experience will be also considered.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

SPECIAL SKILLS:

  •  Good project management skills 
  •  Well-rounded knowledge of super alloys-melting, converting, forging, heat treating, properties, and applications
  • Understanding of customer end use of parts 
  • Ability to work in a high-volume production environment
