Southwest United Industries Tulsa operates from a 100,000 square feet modern and well-maintained facility in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Former headquarters for Southwest United Industries (prior to acquisition), the site offers single source metal finishing for newly manufactured parts and for repair and overhaul applications.

Position Summary:

Selected candidates for a Level One NDT Operator position, limited operator will possess the skills and knowledge to perform specific tests/specific calibrations and with prior written approval of Company Level 3 Inspector.  The Level 1-Limited shall be able to follow the techniques and procedures for which certified, with limited guidance from Level 2 or Level 3 Inspector. Candidates must be self-disciplined and self-motivated individuals with strong accountability (attention to details) skills Candidates must have the ability and desire to be flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced production environment, be resourceful and innovative along with presenting a strong business ethic and compliance to leadership and company policies, and a good communicator with the ability to represent the company in a positive manner. Selected candidates will be expected to perform a variety of tasks which include but are not limited to cleaning and etching of production aerospace parts, in-process inspections, equipment calibration checks and processing materials tests, and other tasks and training assigned by Level 2 or Level 3 Inspectors for further opportunity in advancing a career in NDT Inspection. As a condition of assignment, Level 1-Limited candidates may be expected to process product controlled under in International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or Export Administration Regulations (EAR). As such, these candidates may be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship, Legal Permanent Residence or protected status as a Non-Citizen National of the U.S.     

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing and assimilating work instructions relating to cleaning, etching, and dwell/develop operations, and record results.
  • Perform receiving inspections (before processing) as needed and immediately report any damage or discrepancy.
  • Cleaning and etching of production parts in preparation for inspections.
  • Application and removal of Fluorescent Penetrant Dye, dwell and develop processing in preparation for black light and white light inspections.
  • Performs specific equipment calibration checks and processing materials tests, and documents results as required.
  • Perform other assigned non-inspection functions such as racking, masking or cleaning of production parts.
  • Will require use of personal protective equipment (PPE) during certain tasks (goggles, safety glasses, aprons, boots, gloves, hearing protection, etc) and be expected to comply with safety directives and policy.
  • Will be exposed to chemicals/solvents and occasional fumes, wet/humid conditions, low-level lighting, and moderate noise level.
  • Will, at times require heavy lifting or use of mechanical hoist for the aid in lifting objects.
  • Work closely with inspectors and area leadership to complete work and prioritize tasks.
  • Clean, organize and maintain work area as prescribed by supervision.

Required Skills:

  • Ability to independently perform all the duties of an NDT Helper (entry level position).
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and peripheral vision. The ability to successfully pass a Jaeger eye exam with corrected or uncorrected vision.
  • Basic mathematic skills: add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods with limited movement.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to work alone or as a member of a team, good cooperative skills.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English. Specifically, applicants must be able to read and understand written or verbal instructions.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast paced and changing environment with multiple priorities.

Required Experience:

  • Experience relative to (1) year minimum specific to non-inspection functions of the NDT department as an NDT Helper in the entry level position

Level of Education:

  • General Standard education including the ability to read and write in English.
  • A 14 day training period (or equivalent hour accumulation) required for qualification
  • Complete all training requirements, on job training, and achieve passing grades for applicable general, specific and practical exams for Level I-Limited Inspector.

Note: Prior training and experience of acquired Level I Inspection status must be verified and documented in writing by the previous employer or training agency. Any claimed training and experience which cannot be verified and documented shall be considered invalid, and applicant must require additional training as recommended by the responsible Level 3. All previous training must be verified by the Responsible Level III.
