With more than 120 operations and approximately 20,000 employees worldwide, Precision Castparts Corp. is the market leader in manufacturing large, complex structural investment castings, airfoil castings, forged components, aerostructures and highly engineered, critical fasteners for aerospace applications. In addition, we are the leading producer of airfoil castings for the industrial gas turbine market. We also manufacture extruded seamless pipe, fittings, and forgings for power generation and oil & gas applications; commercial and military airframe aerostructures; and metal alloys and other materials for the casting and forging industries. With such critical applications, we insist on quality and dependability – not just in the materials and products we make, but in the people we recruit.

PCC is relentless in its dedication to being a high-quality, low-cost and on-time producer; delivering the highest value to its customers while continually pursuing strategic, profitable growth.

In 2016, Berkshire Hathaway, led by Chairman and CEO Warren E. Buffett, acquired Precision Castparts Corp.

MISSION:

To identify and record casting defects, severity, and the responsible department in order to assist engineering and process control in resolving processing variations.  To verify alloy type in each casting and visually inspect castings before release for further processing.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Inspection.

Objective:  to visually inspect and verify part quality through  instrumentation tests prior to routing for further processing.

Typical Activities:

  1. Visually inspect all castings for defects, using boroscopes, mirrors and other hand tools when necessary
  2. Verifies the alloy composition of all castings and weld patches using Acromag and Kevex spectral analyzer; programs analyzer and reviews results.
  3. Verifies alloy type of x-ray "pennies" laid on film.
  4. Routes parts.

  1. Documentation.

Objective:  to record defects and process control problems for timely analysis by process control and engineering.

Typical Activities:

  1. Records type of defects, severity, location and responsible department; prepares reports.
  2. Documents and identifies unusual or recurring problems with parts and brings to the attention of the appropriate individual.
  3. Reviews, completes and assures accurate documentation.
  4. Completes special reports as requested by engineering or process control.
