Location Profile:

PCC Aerostructures Auburn is a kitting, assembly, and integration center that was created in 1999 as Primus International with the merger of Bumstead Manufacturing, Inc. and Hansen Machine Corporation. Precision Castparts Corp. acquired Primus International in August, 2011 and has since merged GCM North American Aerospace and Compass Aerospace Northwest with Auburn to create a vertical integration solutions center for medium assembly. The site is a center of excellence for hard metal machining and door assembly.

Position Summary:

The advanced Lathe Machinist operates assigned resources of machining tools and equipment ensuring safety of operations, compliance with quality control standards with productivity targets. The advanced Lathe Machinist continually trouble-shoots and problem-solves production processes to ensure product meets or exceeds all manufacturing set-up and cycle times, serves as a subject-matter expertise to other Machinists in the plant, has the ability to use advanced quality insepction tools and techniques, and has advanced competencies in print reasing and common CNC G and M codes.

Shift:

Weekdays M-TH 5:00 am – 3:30 pm.

Compensation and Benefits:

For informational purposes only, the range of pay for this role is $25.00 – $38.00 USD (hourly) based on a variety of factors.  Also, for informational purposes only, this role is eligible to participate in the Company’s Quarterly Cash Bonus Plan, paid out at the quarterly bonus factor of 1X the Company’s bonus multiple, based on the Company’s performance in the applicable quarter. Employees will also receive 96 hours of Paid Time Off leave every year. Employees will also receive 10 paid holidays. Employees (and their families) are eligible to participant in the company's medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are able to enroll in the Company’s 401(k) plan.

Reporting Relationships:

This position reports to the Operations Manager.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Understand, adhere, and demonstrate the company’s commitment to safety and quality
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance according to shift times or a pre-arranged work schedule
  • Able to run multiple types of machines
  • Perform setup and production for machine cells and standalone CNC mills
  • Set-up of first part on machine as assigned by Supervisor or Manager
  • Set-up and run the first part after completion of machine set-up
  • Verify program is stable and part is within tolerance for run
  • Verify all set-up documentation is correct and adequate for part run
  • Complete MIP sheet for first part
  • Ensure correct work orders, programs, and documents are being used for current operation
  • Help trouble-shoot basic production problems
  • During times when not assigned a set-up or performing production or as assigned by supervisor; spot check parts and deburr finished product
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Clean the machine at the end of each shift; organize all parts and tools for the job for the next shift
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of related experience; experience in a heavy manufacturing environment preferred

  • High proficiency with multiple machine and control types
  • Proficient at reading and understanding M and G code
  • Ability to read precision measuring instruments
  • Ability to read shop production blueprints
  • Mechanical aptitude and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to follow directions during production and follow all safety protocols
  • Advanced understanding of machine set-up
  • Machine shop experience and/or on the job training
  • Self-motivated with an ability to work alone or in a team environment
  • Ability to work across departments to meet product quality standards efficiently
  • Ability to follow instructions given by the operations manager, lead, or senior machinist and carry them out correctly
  • Ability to interpret instructions given and apply experience and training throughout the course of the day for each production job assigned
  • Ability to read and comprehend basic instructions and write simple correspondence
  • Ability to read and interpret the English language
  • Willingness to learn and, as required, help and/or train others
  • Advanced knowledge of machining processes using a wide variety of machine tools
  • Interact with computers and CNC controls at an advanced level
  • Identify and correctly load secure fixtures with no assistance
  • Expertise of G and M codes applied in setting and adjusting offsets and interacting with CNC programs
  • High proficiency of shop math, including tool geometry, positive and negative numbers, as well as basic geometry

  • Ability to: stand continually, walk regularly, sit continually, hear/listen carefully regularly, climb and/or balance infrequently, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl occasionally, twist occasionally at the trunk or neck, bend occasionally, reach with hands and arms regularly, taste and/ use sense of smell infrequently, use hands to manipulate, handle and/or feel in the act of performing the required responsibilities of the position
  • Must be able to: lift and carry up to 35 pounds regularly
  • Visual acuity needed for close detail work, clarity with distance, distinction with color, peripheral observation up and down/left and right, depth perception for distance and spatial relationships, sharp focus of objects brought into line of sight
  • Mental dexterity needed to work independently while demonstrating attention to detail and continuous awareness

Level of Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED required; additional training or certification preferred
