Business Profile

Wyman-Gordon is a worldwide supplier to the aerospace and industrial gas turbine markets. We hold quality accreditations for all of the major airframe and engine manufacturers for both civil and military applications. Wyman-Gordon creates rotating closed-die forgings which are critical for aerospace and land-based gas turbines.  Wyman-Gordon also manufactures structural forgings for airframe, nuclear, petrochemical, power generation, and space applications.

 

Location Profile

Located in South Gate, Dickson Testing Company, Inc. is a full-service destructive testing laboratory serving aerospace and metallic producers worldwide. Our laboratories serve our customers with metallurgical, mechanical, corrosion, and chemical testing services. In support of these services our facility provides complete specimen fabrication, cut off services and heat treat capability.                  

 

Position Summary:

The Manufacturing Engineering Co-Op will assist in projects to improve operation practices, costing, and processes.

The Co-Op will be tasked with various short/long term projects to gather and analyze data required for efficient cutting, heat treat, machining and testing processes. The co-op will also support onsite test lab environments.

 

This internship is on-site and can be part-time (20+hours/week) or full-time, with the schedule determined based on availability and course load.

  • Work safely under functional safety guidelines such as PPE and equipment interaction.

  • Learn about the cutting, heat treat, machining and testing lab processes and procedures.
  • Suggest projects to help improve productivity and reduce variable cost.
  • Helps improves manufacturing efficiency and safety by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
  • Helps analyze production data and look for trends indicating potential problems and develop solutions for potential problems.
  • Develops and documents manufacturing processes by studying product requirements, researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment.
  • Supports ensuring equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services; following manufacturer’s instructions and established procedures; requesting special service. 
  • Helps complete new equipment design and development projects by supporting employee training.
  • Support with new equipment procurement ensuring reliability and functionality.
  • Stay informed concerning new manufacturing technology and equipment and investigate their potential applications. Recommend incorporation of new technology for company applications where feasible and practical.
  • Assist in the continuous improvement of standard work in the department and in the training and development of other department personnel.
  • Supports root cause investigations to support production technical issues.
  • Supply and accomplish accurate completion dates of all projects. 
  • Takes ownership and accountability of projects.
  • Track projects to determine success or failure and the potential impact.
  • Other projects/duties as assigned.

 

Job Qualifications:

  • Minimum second year students working towards Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent.
  • A strong technical aptitude along with the ability to work independently, yet interact closely with other departments, customers, and vendors.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel and Word).
  • Co-Op position will be flexible to work around school breaks, weekly school schedule, etc.

For informational purposes only, the range of pay for this role is $19.00 to $26.25 US Dollar (USD) Hourly based on a variety of factors. Employees will receive 0  hours paid time off every year. Employees will also receive 10 paid holidays. Employees (and their families) are eligible to participate in the company's medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are eligible to enroll in the Company’s 401(k) plan.
