Position Summary:

Responsible for managing the manufacturing and manufacturing engineering operations for the Jenkintown Plant of the Aerospace Fastener Division and assuring the cost-effective utilization and integration of manpower, equipment and materials required to manufacture a broad range of diverse products.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Manage the production efforts of the Batch Manufacturing departments across three shifts in order to assure that production schedules, quality standards and cost objectives are met.  Meet daily with reporting manufacturing managers to discuss the status of budgets, projects and projected manpower requirements.  Counsel subordinates with regard to unusual problems in the areas of employee morale and equipment usage.
  • Prepare the annual operating budget in conjunction with Plant Management, Engineering and Plant Controller for the Batch Manufacturing function.  Plan and justify the annual manufacturing plan and capital equipment plan for Manufacturing subject to the approval of Division and Corporate management.  Determine future manpower needs to maintain flexibility and to minimize employment fluctuation.  Maintain full responsibility for the annual operating budget.
  • Maintain, update and apply knowledge with respect to: machinability, all types of materials, materials characteristics, capability of various and complex equipment, heat treating, coatings, speeds and feeds, product specifications, quality control requirements, gaging, personnel strengths and weaknesses, manufacturing systems, fastener technology (e.g. threads, concentricity’s, finish, hot and cold forging, shear strength, fatigue, tensile strength, joint characteristics, etc.), methods and any other processes.
  • Interview and re-assign subordinates, recommend hire, promotion, increases and layoffs as required within budgeting constraints.  Evaluate subordinate’s performance on a periodic basis.  Train and/or supervise the training of subordinates in accordance with Company objectives.
  • Prepare annual review of maintenance and improvement of manufacturing capital equipment and alternatives in the areas of new equipment and processes and make recommendations for capital plan.  Ensure there is an adequate inventory of tools and machine parts.  Develop and implement cost reduction programs.
  • Assist in the maintenance of morale in the exempt and non-exempt workforce.  Detect changes in the morale and attitudes of personnel and act on them to maintain an effective and productive organization.  Motivate and communicate with subordinates in order to optimize resources and maintain an effective working climate.  Keep supervisor and plant management informed of unusual problems encountered in the operation of the cost centers.
  • Coordinate with Materials Manager to plan and control the Group efforts in the areas of production control and scheduling according to equipment capability and customer requirements.  Control the cost and usage of tools and supplies.  Supervise the scheduling of manufacturing jobs paying particular attention to workload and its effect on shifting manpower and holding variances to within three percent of budget.  Maintain good production recording, accurate counts and proper usage of raw materials in order to keep yield, repair and scrap at a minimum.
  • Investigate the feasibility and adequacy of new equipment for improving the efficiency of manufacturing methods.
  • Perform other duties as necessary or appropriate to the position.

 

Required Skills

 

  • Must have strong EXCEL experience
  • Syteline Experience is preferred
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize with limited direction
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Working knowledge of Six Sigma and Statistical Process Control.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

 

Experience and Education

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field required.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • 5+ years’ related experience highly preferred.
