Position Summary: 
The Master Production Scheduler is responsible for developing the master production plan to satisfy customer delivery expectations while carrying minimum effective inventory. The qualified individual will be responsible for providing the plant with a production plan consistent with the plant capacity and sales forecast and scheduling raw material. The sales forecasts, new business opportunities, customer expectations, and internal capacity constraints will be used to develop these production plans. Strong collaboration with the Plant Manager, Business Managers, Operations, Sales, Customer Service and Management will be critical to meeting business goals.


Primary Duties & Responsibilities: 
•    Observes all safety and environmental procedures as outlined in Cardinal Rules and Quality System Requirements (QSR).
•    Master Planning
o    Translate the production plan into a time-phased build schedule. 
o    Manage make-to-stock, make-to-order, and engineer-to-order manufacturing environments. 
o    Forecast consumption by actual sales orders. 
o    Establish the demand and planning time fences, as well as policies for time fence management. 
o    Perform cumulative lead time analysis. 
o    Utilize mechanics of the master schedule calculation logic. 
o    Manage available-to-promise and capable-to-promise portion of the master schedule. 
o    Schedule demand based on the product mix. 
o    Manage schedule changes through system generated action messages. 
o    Utilize the rough-cut capacity plan. 
o    Assemble master schedule reporting regarding performance to the business plan, the shipment plan, the inventory plan, and the production plan.
•    Production Planning
o    Manage the sales and operations planning (S&OP) process. 
o    Coordinate the requirements of the production plan, sales plan, and overall business plan. 
o    Identify current planned level of demand and create tactical production plans to meet the identified customer demand. 
o    Establish and work with bills of material (BOMs). 
o    Calculate production lead times. 
o    Manage infinite loading and finite loading. 
o    Manage load leveling and bottleneck scheduling. 
o    Utilize theory of constraints (TOC) and drum-buffer-rope scheduling methods. 
o    Analyze production floor status through input/output control reporting. 
o    Effectively analyze whether inventories to achieve optimum inventory levels. 
o    Coordinate information with other functional staff, including sales, engineering, accounting, finance, marketing, and human resources. 
o    Establish reporting to determine labor and productivity performance statistics. 
•    Planning Process
o    Integrate production and materials planning with the business plan. 
o    Possess a full understanding of modern planning concepts and practices. 
o    Be capable of utilizing spreadsheet and ERP-type software in managing the planning process. 
o    Define and develop effective project plans. 
o    Define the project resources such as money, people, materials, and space, and the milestones and specific outcomes.
•    Sale, Inventory, Operations and Planning (SIOP) 
o    Effectively communicate the operational perspective in cross-functional meetings. 
o    Establish an SIOP program, defining operating procedures, and establishing an SIOP planning team from various parts of an organization. 
o    Calculate the SIOP plan output. 
o    Evaluate output and propose changes to the S&OP plan. 
o    Integrate SIOP with financial output. 
o    Function as SIOP process expert, providing facility team with understanding of the components structure and logic of the SIOP process. 
o    Communicate plan changes to production and inventory planning. 

•    Demand management and forecasting 
o    Establish policies and procedures to ensure forecast control. 
o    Provide effective time-series analysis in forecast data preparation. 
o    Apply time-series methods to work with horizontal, random, seasonal, trend, and cyclical. 
o    Utilize subjective, causal, and time-series forecasting methods including: 
    Averages. 
    Time series (exponential smoothing). 
    Trend. 
    Seasonality. 
    Regression models. 
o    Focus forecasting
o    Establish key performance indicators of forecast accuracy. 
•    Supervise Buyer/Planner.
•    Liaison between Purchasing and Customer Service Departments for scheduling raw material.
•    Works closely with Estimating for the set-up of Bills of Materials and routers.
•    Works closely with IT personnel to review and develop functionality in the manufacturing systems.

Required Skills:
•    Knowledge and experience with planning systems (ERP, MRP, etc.). Experience with Syteline, Apriso, Ortem, and Enovia preferred.
•    Sound knowledge of supply chain processes and procedures including manufacturing planning, demand, and replenishment processes.
•    Strong negotiation skills with the ability to reason and influence at all levels.
•    Excellent communication and analytical skills.
•    Computer skills: Planning systems understanding/experience; Microsoft Excel skills: intermediate to advanced user, Microsoft Office skills; PC skills.
•    Minimum 4 years’ experience in Heavy Manufacturing (Steel making, automotive or forging preferred)
•    Familiarity with e-commerce.
•    Familiarity with metal manufacturing processes.
•    Theoretical and practical understanding of the Theory of Constraints.
•    Ability to see the “big picture.”
•    Ability to do multi tasks.
Experience & Education 
•    BA/BS degree. Preferably in Supply Chain Management, Logistics.
•    Minimum ten (10) years related professional experience with at least (5) years in a related master scheduling/planner/analyst position and/or equivalent supply chain experience.
•    APICS certification preferred.
