Network Engineer

Position Summary:                                                      

The Network Engineer manages the network and network equipment for their assigned business, outside vendors, and connections to other PCC facilities. Ensures each component of the network is reliable, available, and meets company standards.  Monitors network functionality daily by assessing performance, diagnosing issues and implementing changes as needed. 

Essential Functions:                                                    

  • Maintains network user policy information and documentation per company policies and procedures.
  • Ensures data integrity and business continuity through effective implementation and maintenance of the data backup and disaster recovery plan including daily reviews of backups and corrective action for job failures.
  • Monitors and maintains deployment and maintenance of anti-virus software.
  • Ensures timely resolution/referral of user problems by understanding the impact to the user and assigning an appropriate priority and resolution goal.
  • Monitor server health and conducts preventive maintenance to ensure near 100% uptime.
  • Installs, maintains, and configures PCs, servers, phone systems, printers, switches, routers, and firewalls within the LAN environment.
  • Proposes and implements hardware and software upgrades optimizing network performance while within budget.
  • Performs regular maintenance in order to maximize performance and useful life of PCC’s computer network.
  • Ensures cost effective use of network resources as measured from an overall business strategy.
  • Manages external resources which are essential to sustaining the network.
  • Communicates relevant information to all appropriate functional areas (manufacturing, engineering, quality, etc.).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience & Education                                              

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a relevant technical field. MS degree is highly desirable.
  • Two to four years of experience managing a network of at least five servers and 50 clients.
  • Expert knowledge of Windows Server platforms and Active Directory.
  • Good working knowledge of Network Directory Services.
  • Good working knowledge of layer 2 and layer 3 switch configuration.
  • Working knowledge of Local Area Network infrastructure and protocols.
