Position Summary                                                      

Organizes and directs cost accounting activities for the Operation. The position will perform advanced cost accounting analyses to compare estimated costs to actual costs and prepare a variety of related budget reports, forecasts and management studies. Position reports to the Controller.

Essential Functions:                                                   

  • Gathers and presents cost information to management to help understand and communicate performance.
  • Reviews and analyses actual costs to identify material variances and recommend cost-effective solutions.
  • Understands and maintains the inventory costing system to ensure information is accurate and up to date.
  • Performs monthly, quarterly and year-end closings with assistance.
  • Participates in the preparation of material and scrap analyses, relating these results back to budget & forecast.
  • Participates in setting new standards for each fiscal year.
  • Participates in development of short and long range financial plans particularly in the areas of scrap and inventory adjustments.
  • Oversees the weekly cycle count procedures to ensure inventory values are regularly audited and corrected if necessary.
  • Participates and monitors the taking of physical inventories and their subsequent reconciliation. Insures that corrective actions are identified.
  • Interacts with Manufacturing/Operations Management, Engineering, Production Control, and I.T. concerning scrap budgets, forecasts, and targets.
  • Maintain all SOX controls regarding inventories and inventory costing/management.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Required Skills:                                                          

  • Thorough understanding of cost accounting procedures and practices.
  • Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and related software.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills with close attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to document and reconcile results in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to manage confidential information.

Experience & Education:                                            

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • A minimum of 1 year experience in cost accounting.
  • Public Accounting experience encouraged but not required.
