Summary

The Production Planning Director will concentrate on developing and integrating the supply and demand functions within the New Hartford & Dunkirk supply chain.   

This position is designed to ensure a cost effective balance between the manufacturing milestones across the melt, forge, and finishing shop and both internal and external customers.  Responsibilities include focus on melted and mill product integration, development of synergies between the plants, and improving the clarity of the demand signal to the plants.

Resulting improvements to plant performance and customer service will support SMC growth, proper resource allocation, inventory management and profitability improvement strategies.

 

Functional elements

Planning:

  • Interface between Commercial Organization and site managers on volumes and product mix.
  • Manage interface between SMC Plants and NASC to ensure compliance with commercial, planning and inventory objectives.
  • Assist plants in development of operational requirements to satisfy anticipated customer demand
  • Balance global melt plan to ensure proper communication and allocation of resources.
  • Develop and maintain monthly master production plan focused on melting and mill products volume and mix requirements.
  • Ensure that the Commercial Sales Plan and the Plant Operations/Financial Forecasts are synchronized.
  • Work with PCC Supply Chain organization to synchronize supply and improve throughput across plants.
  • Understand current capacity utilization and future capacity planning requirements.
  • Publish global production plan for US Plants in conjunction with Global Materials Director
  • Provide ad hoc advice and recommendation for constrained resources at all SMC facilitie

Coordination:

  • Develop operational synergies to increase throughput and to reduce costs
  • Serve as inside resource in problem solving role in instances where factors external to the individual plant are involved

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business, Supply Chain or appropriate discipline
  • Minimum of 8 years related experience in Operations, Production Planning, Supply Chain or Materials Management functions
