Base Pay Range: $ 19.00/hour - $ 34.25/hour

Wyman-Gordon is a worldwide supplier to the aerospace and industrial gas turbine markets. We hold quality accreditations for all the major airframe and engine manufacturers for both civil and military applications. Wyman-Gordon creates rotating closed-die forgings which are critical for aerospace and land-based gas turbines.  Wyman-Gordon also manufactures structural forgings for airframe, nuclear, petrochemical, power generation, and space applications.

 

Location Profile:

Located in South Gate, Dickson Testing Company, Inc. is a full-service destructive testing laboratory serving aerospace and metallic producers worldwide. Our laboratories serve our customers with metallurgical, mechanical, corrosion, and chemical testing services. In support of these services our facility provides complete specimen fabrication, cut off services and heat treat capability.                  

 

Position Summary:

The Machinist operates 2-5 axis CNC/Automated machine cells as well as standalone machines, which requires machine setup including preparing and setting up fixtures and cutting tools, as well as loading and adjusting CNC programs and offsets. Competencies include the ability to use more advanced quality inspection tools and techniques such as height and air gauges and bench inspection. The Machinist is able to read prints and has experience with common CNC G and M codes.

 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work safely under functional safety guidelines such as PPE and equipment interaction.
  • Perform proper inspections of general tools, such as but not limited to height gauges, bore gauges, profilometer etc.
  • Proficient understanding of GD&T (geometric dimensioning & tolerance)
  • Knowledge of machine setup and tool selection.
  • Knowledge of machine work setting and toll offsets
  • Ability to load and indicate fixtures
  • Ability to adjust offsets
  • Maintain machine control “distance to go”
  • Maintain accuracy by setting up first run proofing
  • Knowledge of basic Lathe Setup
  • The ability to operate 2x Lathes simultaneously
  • Manage tool wear to assure part protection
  • Maintain SPC Control
  • Respond to machining process quality queues “i.e. Surface Finish” to assure quality
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Skills:

  • The ability to understand GD&T (geometric dimensioning & tolerance)
  • The ability to setup a machine and basic tool selection
  • The ability to maintain accuracy by setting up first run proofing
  • The ability to operate 2x lathes simultaneously
  • Ability to read blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, & specifications.
  • Effective communication skills in verbal and written format.
  • Ability to work independently but also as part of a team.

 

Experience & Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • 2 – 4 years of related experience is required.
  • Relevant Certificate of Completion from a college or technical trade school is preferred but not required.
