Southwest United Industries was established in 1953. Today it is an industry leader in providing complete metal finishing services as well as aviation component repair and overhaul from its 130,000 ft² facility in Tulsa. Southwest primarily serves the Aerospace & Defense industries but also supports the medical, oil & gas, and general industrial base as well.

Our services include chrome, cadmium and nickel plating; plasma and HVOF thermal spray coating; hard, chromic, boric and sulfuric anodizing, including chemical conversion coating; all types of painting, including dry film lube and Teflon; non-destructive testing; shot peening; all types of precision grinding including OD, ID, surface, spherical and super-finishing. Southwest maintains Nadcap accredidation for all processes as well as an extensive list of customer specific approvals including Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Bell Helicopter, Northrop Grumman, Goodrich, Messier-Dowty, Gulfstream, Bombardier, Embraer, Honeywell, Parker and Cessna.

The Process Engineer will provide engineering support to existing and new plant production projects, including equipment specifications, layout, capital budgeting and implementation. Daily work will encompass troubleshooting processes and tooling, drive tooling development and maintenance, recommend and industrialize new production machinery. Holds responsibility for supervising production planning and chemical processing labs.
  • Ensure manufacturing processes and/or methods of manufacture within the facility are capable of meeting and continuing to meet requirements for quality, cost, and delivery rate and lead time
  • Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods while anticipating and reacting to emerging business needs.
  • Develop, implement and maintain process standardization throughout the facility
  • Standardize equipment and coating materials utilized in thermal spray operations.
  • Lead and oversee cross-functional projects and initiatives.
  • Lead and develop engineering department, creating a culture of empowerment.
  • Recommend changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiencies.  Work with CI to implement recommended changes and improve efficiencies.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Evaluate, analyze, and report to management the status of the manufacturing systems and propose corrective actions to support operation’s needs.
  • Create and communicate to internal customers related documents including process and design FMEA’s, control plans, process flow diagrams, gage R&R’s, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in quality or directly related field, aerospace industry a plus
  • 2+ years of leadership experience
  • Understanding of metal finishing industry
  • Working knowledge of quality systems, quality control, process control, statistical analysis, non-destructive testing, inspection methods, blueprint reading, and welding, machining, grinding and thermal spray technology
  • Demonstrated ability to perform high level mathematical problem solving, geometry, physics, chemistry, mechanical properties, thermodynamics, metallurgy, etc.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated and ability to work well with others
  • Good working knowledge of personal computers and standard office software with ability to develop and maintain spreadsheets
  • Ability to multi-task in fast-paced environment
