SUMMARY

Performs Research and Development activities related to initial concept and preliminary design, evaluation of prototypes and models; testing, evaluation and test report generation. Develops and trouble shoots manufacturing methods and processes with a view to product or process improvement. Supports the day-to-day maintenance of assigned product lines. Duties include customer, sales, quality and manufacturing contact to promote improved performance and quality of products and processes. Gets involved in design and development of new products or modification of existing products to meet customer needs. Critical evaluation and reporting of in-process and qualification test results. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. (Other duties may be assigned.) 

  • Deep knowledge of the products and product lines assigned, including, but not limited to:
    • Knowledge of use, capabilities, limitations, and competitive advantages of products
    • Awareness of critical design requirements
    • Lessons learned
  • Manufacturing knowledge:
    • Aware of the specific manufacturing challenges related to assigned products and the corresponding manufacturing capabilities/limitations
    • In-depth knowledge of Shur-Lok’s core manufacturing competencies (machining, thread rolling, thread locking, precipitation heat treatment, NDT, etc.)
    • Familiarity with the specific manufacturing technologies available at Shur-Lok and general knowledge of what is more broadly available in industry
  • Advanced user of SolidWorks CAD system (able to create part/assembly models rapidly and accurately, detailed drawings, interface with PDM, etc.)
  • Able to perform engineering analysis using FEA software (static and non-linear) and hand calculations as required.
  • Familiarity and understanding with procurement specifications, material and finish specifications, part standards, and other industry standard publications related to assigned products.
  • Ability to correctly apply, interpret, and communicate Dimensioning and Tolerancing per ANSI Y14.5 (GD&T).
  • Capable of generating new ideas or concepts to fulfill industry or customer needs and to translate those ideas and concepts into manufacturable designs.
  • Able to support Sales and provide technical customer service that appropriately represents Shur-Lok’s objectives and reputation.

  • Technical writing: Test plan, Test reports, Analysis reports

Responsibilities also include answering customer questions in support of technical sales as well as internal consultation to manufacturing personnel.

Education: B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering

Experience: 0 to 5 years of engineering experience

For informational purposes only, the range of pay for this role is $77,600 to $116,400 US Dollar (USD) Salaried based on a variety of factors.  For informational purposes only, this role is eligible to participate in the Company’s Quarterly Cash Bonus Plan, paid out at the quarterly bonus factor of 2X the Company’s bonus multiple, based on the Company’s performance in the applicable quarter. Employees will receive 80 hours paid time off every year. Employees will also receive 10 paid holidays. Employees (and their families) are eligible to participate in the company's medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are eligible to enroll in the Company’s 401(k) plan.
